I am seriously considering farjo clinic at the moment. I know this sounds crazy but could not face shaving my head !! so this impacts on clinic choice

I have my hair longer at back and using dermatch brush forward to achieve this ( you may laugh ) but could not face shaving as makes me look like a primate ha

I dont understand why people have such an attitude when it comes to shaving their head. For someone who has a scar you can maybe understand but not really because in either case (scar or not) this procedure is something that is going to be a life long investment so you want to have the best possible result in terms of density and avoiding shockloss. See the hair you have regrown from meds you could very well lose some if not all of that to shockloss from not shaving, you may still get shockloss if even you do shave, however, shaving greatly reduces the risk.

However bad you think you will look with a shaved head, dont forget the transplant will make you look worse for more than two months afterwards with the shedding, healing and lingering redness.

Bottom line you will not look normal until around the 3 month mark no matter what, so a shaven head should not be an issue. Shave it, trust me its the best thing to do.

Clearly I have not done my research over last couple years , I had never heard of shock loss!

Shockloss aside, you are not going to look completely normal post op anyway so why not just shave?

For what its worth shockloss is when native hair falls out due to an incision being made near that hair. Weaker native is more prone to shockloss. By shaving the doc is able to see more of the scalp and can be more accurate when making an incision and also plant at a higher density which will give a better result. Its really a no-brainer when it comes to shaving for someone in your situation.

As said previously said shockloss may still occur even with a shaved a head, its some what of a lottery but you want to do all you can to avoid it.

You gotta shave your head, its the best way to make sure the grafts are put in at the same angle as the rest of your hair, it also helps them to not miss any bald areas. It doesn't take long to grow back!

They don't need you to shave it down to the skin, it's more of a short buzz.

Hi,

Congrats on your meds only improvement

Is that a result from Rogaine only or are you also taking propecia?

Your hair type looks good for transplanting, what's the density like in the donor?

If you want top quality work I advice to shave.
Let the people on you have a perfect field of view, otherwise it is kinda working in the shade.
There are good reasons why top clinics worldwide shave.

Shaving makes it easier for planting, however i was not shaven down and got excellent results, my hair was trimmed down which makes a difference when you want to conceal your Ht.

I've seen many good results where the patient is unshaven, although when its a big case shaven would probably be the best option.

I would ask whoever you consult with what they think is best and why.

Looking at your area of loss i would guess you need between 2500-3000 grafts, this is just my non medical opinion.

As for shockloss, if the hair you have gained with the meds is strong isee no reason why it will be lost if you have a Ht.

As said by others, shaving will help with placement, matching native angles and also limit shock loss in that the doctor can place in a way as to not transect the native grafts.

If there is graft popping (a raising up of surrounding grafts placed when one is being placed) then also this is easier to tackle with a shaved recipient area and just generally means easier better placing of grafts and more so on cases whereby the patient has a significant amount of hair in the area to be treated.

It also really helps post operative care, washing and keeping clean.

Having seen many examples of your Clinics work, the majority of which have of course had shaven recipient area.
How do you deal with a patient whom has a widows peak (their hair in the frontal area sticks up and does not lay flat). If the hair is shaved down in the recipient area, the HT surgeon may be unaware of how the native hair naturally lays.
Also shaving in the recipient area is a huge concern for me, due to my occupation. Do you ever compromise with a patient and agree for example to just shave the recipient to say 10mm?
And if you are transplanting into areas like temples and only marginally implanting into native areas. Do you still insist the patient to be shaved. Obviously every situation is different and every individual case is considered on its own unique merits. But it would be interesting to hear your response, not just for me but others reading as well.

Hi

firstly congrats you have had a great response to the hair loss meds , for my own personel reasons I did not shave down however I know for fact after my last HT on the crown I did suffer a lot of shock loss , it seemed like some of the hair I grew in the crown with meds was lost however as said it was my choice , things have turned around now and the crown is looking good , you have come along way with the meds and i would go with what a lot of guys have said and shave down

all the very best
