Does hair transplant surgery cause any bruising?

I have seen pictures of patients with redness post surgery but can a transplant cause any bruising on top or at the back of the head? What do you use to help if it does?

I don't have any bruising i haven't had surgery yet, i was just asking a general question. Sorry for any confusion caused.

The redness is all part of the natural healing process. Your natural skin characteristics will largely determine how fast and well you heal. The bruising that can generally occur is over the eyes from any swelling to the forehead. In the first few days post-op. Although this is not common, depending on the methods used by the Doctor. It can look unsightly of course but dissipates quite fast along with the swelling. Any other bruising as indicated by others is not a normal aspect of performing a hair transplant or the healing process. If you have examples of what you mean it would be helpful. Bruising over the recipient or donor would indicate a very aggressive donor extraction or graft placement. You may be referring to necrosis?

Not sure what it is Hair Restoration Europe but lots of patients iv'e viewed on the forums post op seem to have this red look to their scalps. Could it be a product used during the surgery itself that gives of a purple/red type Hue?

If it is what I think you mean. It could be a pigment/dye that is used to make the recipient sites easier to see. It´s for the techs mainly and the Dr checking no sites have been skipped during the placement. It washes off normally but I guess it could remain for a day or so after.

Bruising is when blood gets trapped below the skin's surface, this causes the black and blue bruise look.
Swelling is what you usually see, it is often called bruising.

I'm kind of surprised at some of the answers given here. I'll respectfully dispute the idea that hair transplant surgery does not cause any bruising. It doesn't, as a regular side effect, but the honest truth is that it does sometimes create bruising, and it is not a rare occurrence. The question then switches to one of frequency. How often does it cause bruising and this depends on the clinic and how aggressive they are with dense packing, which is the leading cause of bruising during recipient site creation. The scalp will always be somewhat pinkish for the first while after a surgery but when you see dark areas that stand out from the overall consistent appearance, that is most likely caused by bruising.

Is bruising a bad thing? Not necessarily. It just depends on the severity of the bruising and how large of an area that it affects. If it is large then you have the potential for necrosis.

A HT should not cause any bruising. The purple/blue color you could see immediately post op is most likely a dye that can be used to color the recipient sites so that they’re visible to the techs and surgeon.
