Does sodium lauryl sulfate cause balding

I watched the television programme on channel 4 called "how not to get old" and the celebrity hairdresser featured spoke about SLS being very bad for your hair.

He said that SLS was used in products that degreased car engines and for cleaning purposes in factories and implied it was very harsh on the hair.

Does anyone know a good shampoo that doesn't have this as an ingredient and can it actually cause balding?

Just been reading up on this, seems lots of studies claim it's dangerous to the skin, body and hair. It strips the skin of natural oils that protect us, maybe have a look at the content of this in greasy hair shampoos as opposed to a dry hair one.

Not sure whether it actually causes hair loss dude but if you have dry hair and a sensitive scalp then it could cause irritation for some people. There are many brands marketed that are sulfate free, below is an example (although i have no idea what it's like)......... organic shampoos tend to have the biggest range of sls free ones.

This article is worth a read imo

I don't know if the foaming agent you mention actually causes baldness or just dries the hair and scalp more. I switched from my regular shampoo to the Regenpure DR after reading about it on here. I have found it doesn't lather as well as my old shampoo, but it does leaves my hair feeling great afterwards and best of all it is SLS free.

We tend to think that every product is good for us therefore it is in the market... but anything which messes too much with natural system usually harms..
