Donor Area

Hello everyone,

Can anyone share some pictures of there donor area 12+month after there op?
Recently got explained that i wouldn't be able to shave the back and sides of my hair as it would be obvious that i have had it done.

I normally have a 0.5 shave on the back and sides so kinda gutted haha.

With every hair transplant surgery scars will be created, be it a linear or round FUE scars. I assume you want an FUE surgery with you wanting to shave the back and sides. At 0.5 there is a good chance that FUE white dot scarring will be visible. Skin characteristics, a patient's healing capacity/physiology, size of FUE punch, extraction pattern, donor hair characteristics, transections rates all play a part.
Could not not have your hair as a 2.0 guard? This would probably be a better option for you.

Hello bigmac,

Yeah i am considering an FUE and i thought a 2.0 might be abit too long but not sure if thats just because im used to having it cut at a 0.5 / 1.

You could get it cut to 2.0 next week to see how it looks. If you are ok with it, then that is one possibility for you. Having a skin fade cut is quite popular which may help as well.
End of the day though it will be down to the things I mentioned earlier about scarring.

I just looked at and commented on your other post. Your donor looks good. If you had the extractions spread out across the whole donor area it may not be that noticeable. The doctor would give a better indication when they see you in person.

Here’s my donor after my own DIY attempt at buzzing my hair to a number 2. I’ll be having it done at the barbers soon to tidy it up.
I’ve had multiple strip surgeries and approximately 1500 plus Fue taken out.

Ohhh wow this is a number 2? i thought a number 2 was alot longer than that haha.
This is my hair now after 2 weeks of having a 0.5 so after seeing how good your number 2 is i should be fine.

Thanks for the help bigmac i appreciate it

My bad, I was thinking 0.5 as the guard size, not the length. You're hair at that will be fine, there should be no sign of any missing hair or scars.

Here is my hair shorter than what you have.
It’s another lockdown DIY which is why it’s quite uneven.

It looks in good condition congratulations I expect you're much happier with it now? I'm potentially booking in for a 2000 fue procedure for sometime in the near future and I'm absolutely petrified about the state of my donor afterwards. I like to change up between a short cut and Letting it grow in and I've been a little scared with what I've seen on posts. For many it's great but I may be a little more critical... I'm hoping the clinics can keep my donor with some sort of length during the procedure. Any advice?

Any ideas what clinic you think you will get it done with?

Yes, I`m happy with how my repair surgeries went. I`ve also benefitted greatly from Finasteride.
If you ask the clinics you're considering what size punch they use. The smaller the better. 1.0 was pretty standard for a long time but now there are numerous clinics that use a 0.8. For 2000 grafts they`ll want to shave your donor area.
Are you wanting the length in the recipient area? What area are you wanting the hair placed into?

I'm in between 2 or 3 really. Battling with my own head whether to go ahead with it or not. Would be great if your forum received some more positive pictures as its exactly the question I'm concerned with. Have you finalised?

I'm rather sceptical about finasteride too, I'm concerned about the reliance on it and the side effects. It seems there are quite a few negative. Assume you've had none?
I'm looking for hair back in my temples/front, have no signs of thinning on top or the crown similar to my father.
Is finasteride useful for the donor are?

I think i might be going with The Hair Dr ( Dr Arshad ) cant find any bad words apart from the odd one on google and facebook.
I know he's only recently been approved on here and all the patient posts on here all seem positive and happy so far, Only problem is i cant find many posts that share there thoughts / pictures after the 12 month mark.

I can get my procedure done early next week which is great for me as i want it done asap, Sommiya the consultant was nothing like i was expecting haha she was being very honest and trying to make sure that a hair transplant is 100% what i wanted and that i knew what to expect. Didn't feel like she was trying to sell it to me at all which i found very confusing at the time considering all other consultations i have had with other clinics felt all they was after was my money.

Can i ask which clinics you have been looking at?

I`ve had slight Gynaecomastia but nothing more and I`ve been on Proscar and Finasteride since 2005. Taking a pill every day isn`t an issue for me but I do understand people's concerns with it. It can and does help donor hair as lots of people experience thinning in the donor zone.

Many people do go ahead with an HT without meds. If you feel your hair loss won`t progress and the clinic checks your hair for miniaturisation and confirms you`re ok to proceed, then that's fine but I`d take photos periodically to keep a watchful eye on your hair.

That's great to hear! Yes the hair Dr seems to have generally good reviews. It's all anyone seems to post about on here which I have some reservations on. I do find it somewhat suspicious that there aren't any other places genuinely mentioned such as vinci, private clinic and various others. I'm considering hair Dr, vinci and the private clinic. There are others too.

Also haven't seen many after photos of a 360 view around the head. It's a major concern for me. I'm concerned 2000 fue will leave it rather noticeable when short. Not entirely sure how short my hairdresser cuts me currently either
