Hi,
This is my first (and probably also the last post) regarding my experience with Dr. Demirsoy. Until a few weeks ago I was in contact with Dr. Demirsoy to reach an agreement concerning the completely failed hair transplant under his hand. I describe the details below. With this review I would like to expressly warn everyone potentially interested in undergoing a surgery with Dr. Demirsoy. I've had an extraordinarily bad experience with him, which seriously questions his professional competence and moral conduct.
In summer 2017 I had 2844 grafts transplanted in his Istanbul clinic and paid almost 3000 EUR (excluding travel and accommodation). Originally I had planned for 2400 grafts, however on site Dr. Demirsoy offered to transplant 2800 grafts at a discounted price, which I agreed to. After a year and many false hopes, Dr. Demirsoy and I concluded that the transplanted grafts have completely died off/fallen out. The intervention was therefore a complete failure. In addition to an unchanged recipient area and a notably thinner donor area, I'm left with considerable frustration. This fact is depressing enough. However, what makes the situation even worse is the way in which Dr. Demirsoys responded to this result (more on that in a moment).
To clarify: I meticulously followed his instructions before and after the surgery. I am generally in very good health, exercise regularly (nothing that compromises my hair) and have a balanced diet (including a lot of organic food). Plus, I did not suffer from any illness during and after the surgery that could have negatively impacted on the growth of the grafts. I point out that I have a mild form of seborrhea/dermatitis in some places on the scalp, which according to Dr. Demirsoy was not a significant barrier to perform the intervention though. After a thorough examination of my constitution (based on the photos sent, the preliminary examination in his office and when the first grafts were extracted),Dr. Demirsoy repeatedly deemed the conditions for a surgery to be satisfactory and that a success rate of about 80-90% could be expected.
In the light of the disastrous result, I consulted three doctors (one general, two dermatologists) to identify possible causes: none of the doctors was able to diagnose any particular dysfunction of my body or scalp. The dermatitis mentioned always only occurs in the same, locally limited spots; at the very least one could have expected to see new growth in the dermatitis-free areas. The androgenetic alopecia (scale approx. 3) does not affect the donor area of course. In short, my scalp is generally in good condition. In view of these circumstances, Dr. Demirsoy denied any responsibility for the result and ominously pointed toward certain "conditions under the scalp" which could have led to an undernutrition of the grafts and thus their loss. He was not concerned with any possible misjudgment on his part before and during the procedure either.
As regards my query to find a fair agreement (which foresaw that I and the Dr evenly split the costs of approx. 3000 EUR among us),he showed no sense of compromise whatsoever. He didn't make a constructive counter offer either. I'm therefore sitting on the all costs without ever having received any effective service in return.
In dealing with this result, Dr. Demirsoy showed serious flawes in his arguments and personal moral conduct. His attitude is highly questionable to me: If all goes well, he claims the result and laurels for himself; if it doesn't, the others are completely to blame. He is either an incompetent professional or he knew that the prospects of success were poor and nevertheless carried out my surgery in the interest of personal gain. During the pre-surgery discussion, I was not informed about the risk (no matter how small) of a complete loss of the grafts.
In conclusion, I strongly recommend everyone - stay away from Dr. Demirsoy. This practicioner is looking for a quick profit before everything else, certainly before the patient's well-being and honest business practices. Unfortunately I cannot undo the surgery. However, my experience can at least help others to save themselves (as well as their money and nerves) from such a terrible experience.
