Does anybody have any experience with Dr Michael Meshkin in California? I am thinking of going to him for a H.T.

He is a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration and i can only find good reports so far.

Any knowledge would be greatly apprecated.

Cheers

Lostinvegas, I don €™t know Dr. Meshkin I have never heard the name before. So I can €™t say if he is a reputable and talented surgeon. What I can tell you is that pulling a name off a recommended list is a very poor strategy when choosing a cosmetic surgeon. It might help as a place to start, but definitely not in making a final choice.

Word of mouth and speaking to past patients is a much better approach. A good majority of HT patients seek anonymity and sometimes it €™s hard to get in touch with them. Unfortunately this works in the favor of several clinics. Take the extra time and effort to try and speak to as many past patients as possible on the phone or better yet meet them in person.

I just read a news story today about how the Better Business Bureau has come under fire for boosting the ratings of businesses that pay them dues. Caught with their hand in the cookie jar they are now forced to change their policy. Just look at some of the recent events where the integrity of the top 3 credit reporting agencies was bought and paid for all in the name of increasing revenue. Their total disregard for their fiduciary responsibilities to their investors was completely irresponsible and partly the cause of our current global financial meltdown.

Well this same corruption can be found in the unregulated recommended lists of HT surgeons that are put together by opportunists looking to make a buck. Just be careful and take you time.

Thanks for your reply topcca 29. I will take on board your comments.

I am new the H.T world. I saw Dr Meshkin was recommended on another forum which may also mean that he is also Sponsor - so i'm keeping that in mind.

I then saw a few patient reports on that site which all seemed very positive.. Dr Meshkin goes on to the site regularlly to explain his proceedures.

The fact that i can find no negative comments about a H.T surgeon that has operated for 20 years is in my opinion a good place to start.

It also goes on to say

'Doctor Meshkin is an active member of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ISHRS), the world €™s largest organization of hair restoration surgery. He is one of the first hair transplant doctors who become a diplomat of American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS).

... He has published many articles in the Journal of Dermatological Surgery, the Journal of Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the Hair transplant Forum'

My next stage is indeed to look outside this other forum and the P.R spin - to seek others opionion which is what i am doing now :)

Thanks again.

I would want to know if Dr. Meshkin practiced on his own for 20 years or whether he worked for another clinic during that time, for example, Bosley?

Quite a lot of his work looks good, but he also sells Laser Therapy, and we all know that's a complete waste of money.

I am familiar with his work and it is good but I don't believe that he is among the elite in this profession. Personally I don't believe that this is the type of procedure that you just go to someone that is OK, but only go to the best of the best.

I have been involved in the "investigating" of clinics and doctors for approx. 4-5 years now and although I will readily admit that the numbers are slowly growing, I still have a list of approx. 6 clinics or so that I would personally go to. Now in saying this, does not mean that there are not many more good physicians, but based on talent, philosophy, staffing, etc. I have a limited number.

Think of it like professional athletes, there might be 300 great hockey players in the NHL, but if you were an owner and allowed to assemble your own team--who would you pick first?

Thanks for those comments NervousNelly

Just a couple of questions on them

Is there anything in particular that makes you say that you wouldn't class Dr Meshkin in the elite? Some less than average results, unhappy customers etc?

Also - who would you name as your top 6? Be great to find out so i (and others that are interested) can do some more research on those you mention.

Thanks again
