Hi Janna,

Nice Result.

I noticed in the documentation that you have cut down 3's and 4's for the hairline,

This interests me because I previously asked the question would it be a good idea to cut down 3's and 4's into single if the patient planned to Buzz the hair.

The response I got was that it would be a bad idea as it wouldnt look natural and it would cause too much trauma to the head but Im still not convinced as when you look at someone with buzzed hair you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a single and a multi-graft without inspecting the head. Yet if you cut 3's into singles you get 3 times as many "dots"(if you compare to micropigmentation, the higher number of dots the more dense it appears)what is your opinion on this?

In simple terms I think 50 singles/cm2 will look far better than 20 3hairs/cm2 and if you cut them into singles you will get better coverage doing 50singles/cm2 all over.

Hairhunter,

Single hairs are definately needed in the hairline - that's a given for the hair line to look natural. You wouldn't want 2,3, or 4 hair grafts in the hairline. Away from the hairline, if you only had single hair grafts to spread over a given area, the density would look sparse. Why not use 2, 3 or 4 hairs to get better density? It's better to make 20 incisions per cm2 of 2 & 3 hair grafts then make 40 incision for 40 single hairs. Less trauma to the scalp while you achieve same or better density.

Yes it will give better density if the hair is grown out but Im not so sure when it comes to a buzz cut when the hair is only a couple of mm's long and you can clearly see where every follicle is entering the scalp.

if you had 20 3hair grafts entering the scalp you would only see what looks like 20 thick hairs leaving the scalp in that square cm when the hair is shaved to a grade 2 or lower. It would be like shaving a doll's head. lol

The trauma to the scalp does worry me but it may be a solution for getting more coverage from less grafts for this hair style type especially for higher Norwood Patients,

3000grafts could give 6000 single follicles @ 40 follicles/cm2 could cover 150cm2. Would this be a very bad idea in your opinion, if the patient had only 3000grafts and 150cm2 to cover

I personally don't think its a wise idea. For one thing, it bounds you to the buzz cut look forever. You might was well do the scalp pigmentation. The 2,3 hairs are not going to look doll hairs just because you buzz it. Another reason is you'll be paying for 6000 single hair grafts. Don't think you'll get a clinic to charge you for 3000 grafts when they had to cut 6000 individual grafts and plant them. I really believe you'll want better density no matter the hair length

Hi Janna,

Im very sketical of micropigmentation, just used it as a referencing idea. (Although this is where I got the initial idea, thousands of dots giving the illusion of buzzed hair, 6000 dots will look better than 3000, why not split multis and singles and have more dots!.) People get hair treatments to give them freedom. Worrying about strong light and constantly keeping your hair cut is not freedom I feel. Maybe For small cases in FUT/Fue repair I think it may be a good idea.

I know the multi grafts wont look like dolls hairs, just used that as an extreme example of more hairs coming out of one scalp incision compared to the same number of hairs spread out in a cm2

I understand what Im proposing is not ideal, but I do think in some cases it may work. Higher NW's with Low Donor looking to pull off a short buzzed hair style but have a big area to cover, 3000grafts cut into Single Follicles may allow them cover back as far as upper crown . Also, doing more with less grafts so fue scarring is not visible afterwards when the hair is cut tight. Getting more from less is basically the principle of the idea.

On the cost side of things I wouldnt expect a clinic to charge their standard rate for 3000grafts but wouldn't think it would be fair to charge for 6000grafts maybe charge 4500graft price.

Thanks for your taughts on the idea and apologies for Highjacking this great Case Presentation.

Keep Up the Good work! :)

Regards
HH

Very nice natural hair line, suits him well, and a few grafts used.
