If you have not used meds before I would suggest starting on Fin first and see how you cope react to it for a couple of weeks , if all good you can start using the Minoxidil together, its not a race as you know and using meds should not be taken lightly just easy does it , hope all works out for you .

Did the surgeon not advise you? Usually, they recommend trying medication for a couple of years before undergoing surgery.

I suppose you could try both but, if forced to choose, I'd pick finasteride, as this addresses the underlying cause of hair loss (i.e. DHT). Also, given that both treatments are only effective as long as you continue to use them, popping a pill each day is a more realistic long-term commitment than having to wash your hair twice daily. (Unless, of course, you consider oral rather than topical minoxidil, but I'm not sure about the long-term side effects. You would have to ask someone else about that.)
