Here is the first UK patient to undergo a FUE hair transplant using the Artas Robotic System. He received 1985 grafts.

Implant area looks good, but I would like to see some donor pictures about 2 weeks after the treatment.
It looks a bit like the harvesting took place on a very narrow strip, possibly showing some thinning in that area compared to the adjacent area.

Has this patient been in touch with his quarterly updates? I read that a smaller punch is now available for use with the Artas. Will Ziering Medical use this punch?

I've not yet seen the patient for a review but will ask him to send over some progress photos.
The 0.9mm ARTAS punch is not widely used but if it is shown to produce equally good grafts we will be keen to add it to our repertoire. However, the standard 1.0mm punch is producing really tidy donor areas with tiny scars. In practice, it is the patient's skin type and aftercare regime which has a major influence on the appearance of FUE scars.

This gentleman lives in Spain and has been unable to attend our London clinic for review. However, he kindly sent us some 11 month progress photos.

This is a great result, do you primarily use the Artas or a hand drill?

I am about 50:50 between ARTAS and the handheld motorised dull punch (Harris SAFE System). I really like the feel and flexibility of the handheld technique but, in the right patient, the robot can produce great grafts very efficiently. I sometimes use both techniques in the same patient to get the best of both worlds. I think it is really important that users of the ARTAS have the skills and experience to offer a manual alternative so that the right extraction method is used for the right patients.

This is true....more and more clinics around the internet seem to be just buying these machines and offering FUE......nothing wrong with them using the machines imo as they can produce nice results, but it's so much better when you get a skilled physician who can also perform quality FUE with a handheld punch too.;)
Out of interest what types of patient would really be unsuitable for the ARTAS.....i would imagine probably repair patients and patients with scarring and limited donor at a guess.

I assume you are using a 1.0mm graft punch with the Artas. When you say you use a mixture of manual/artas in some patients. Is this because you are using a manual punch (less than 1.0mm) for the single hair grafts?

"Out of interest what types of patient would really be unsuitable for the ARTAS "

Hi BN
Other than the selection and exclusion criteria for FUE in general, ARTAS is not always suited to patients with very high skin laxity (because the punch system requires uniform skin tension - usually successfully achieved with their unique "tensioner device"). Patients with previous strip scars can be good candidates but I am very cautious with patients who have had previous FUE surgery. This is because I often prefer the flexibility of a handheld device when picking my way between old FUE scars.

Dr. Ball do you have patient examples of your Safe system that can be viewed?
