Follicide! The death of follicles after a successful hair restoration surgery

You may be wondering what Follicide is … It is a condition that causes desynchronization of the cell cycle progression, and prevents the preservation of genetic stability within the hair follicle... The impact from this phenomenon will be healthy transplanted grafts dying several months or years after a successful hair restoration surgery. Initial findings put the figure at 4% … Research suggests reduced activity of certain genes in the aged stem cells are the cause.

The first phase of hair growth takes between two to seven years. Growth begins at the root (dermal papilla) in your hair follicle, which gives your hair blood supply and the nutrients it needs to grow. Your hair grows about 1 centimeter per month. The desynchronization of the cells ultimately lead to the death of the hair follicle.

Interesting research that could explain the failure rate that some experience.

There are a few doctors that have spoke about this phenomenon. Do you have more insight into this?

What do you imply by desynchronization?
Desynchronization of growth cycles exists in nature and that does not cause cell death.
However, the stem cell complement of each follicle can differ (the same follicle can have short lived as well as long lived hair stem cells).
I wrote about this in my presentation "Epigenetic theory of hairloss" in different conferences.
That, coupled with an unhealthy epigenome explains :
1. Loss of some hair after transplant (if due care is not given to epigenomic health), and
2. Miniaturization in the scalp donor area (advancing age and unhealthy epigenome), and
3. Survival of some miniaturized hair even in the bald scalp of some norwood 6 level bald people.

So, I am interested in knowing what you are talking about.

Dr A

It would be good to hear back from you with an answer to Dr Arvinds question.
