Hi, so i have several other threads on noticing my hair loss and eventually using Finasteride and oral minoxidil capsules and these medications helped greatly. the Finasteride helped put a stop to the shedding of hair and the minoxidil helped increase the volume of hair that I had.

Even with these improvements I dediced that a HT was the best option, styling my hair was always a difficulty routine and using hair fibres can only do so much especially when the hair line is not even. I searched around and got a lot of quotes from clinics in Turkey and eventually I decided to go with Dr Ilhan, The main thing that stood out was all the communication was done directly with Dr Ilhan via email, he was always quick to respond and didnt feel forced, snippet below was from the initial email.

" I do plans of operation (frontal hair line level , where is the safe donor area etc), all local anesthesia to donor and recipient area and harvest all of the grafts one by one under local anesthesia with micro motor (motorised FUE with 0,8-0,9 mm punches) . My certified nurses/medical team (2 person which work together with me for 10 years) create channels and they implant all grafts one by one under my supervision after I harvested the all grafts. (We perform only one operation in a single day )."

I had planned to go Istanbul for ten days for a Holiday with the intention of having the HT on the last few days. Transport to and from my accommodation was included in the package and was straight forward, I was given instructions on what exit gate to take and which Taxi stand to go to.

On the day of the operation which was a Friday, I attended the Clinic at 9am, spoke with Dr Ilhan and he told me more about the process, what to expect based on my family history, what to expect in the months to come, roughly how many grafts will be done. A lot of this information had been provided to me in my initial email exchanges too which was very useful. The clinic was in a affluent part of the city and the clinic itself was

I was taken to a room to take of my top and put on a surgical gown, we then went into a different room and photos where taken pre ops, he drew a line and asked what i thought of it (I wish i took a photo of this), after agreeing we went into another room to have my head shaved and then into the surgical room, which was kind of like being at the dentists.

I laid down on the chair watching the TV, Dr Ilhan started by applying local anesthesia to the back of my head, felt like sharp pin pricks within minutes my head was numb and the operation took place, occasionally being asked to turn side to side, I did doze off at one point and woke up maybe 30 mins later a bit jumpy which was embarrassing, after an hour or so the first part of the operation was done, I was asked if i wanted to continue or have a break. I should note a sample of my blood was also taken.

The second part of the operation was done by the technician/ nurse, Dr Ilhan carried out the local anesthesia once again this time on the front which was a bit more painful (more nerves at the front of the scalp). In his initial email he mentioned Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) which is why the blood sample was taken I believe this was the injected to my recipent area just before transplantation. for the next 60-90 mins the hair was transplanted in and some type of spray was applied every few minutes on my scalp whilst the grafts where being planted.

By 1pm the operation was done and bandages applied, I went back to my room and food was ordered for me and my wife (best Donor i've ever had, it was great) I was advised to wear a hat to protect the front area from the outside conditions (wind/sun, dust etc), it was put on very loosely to avoid touching the grafts. I then came three days later, Monday afternoon to have the bandages taken off and the hair washed for the first time. I spoke to Dr Ilhan briefly and he was open to any questions. Before I left I was offered to purchase some additional hair serums and shampoos, I read the ingredients and I had similar items already so I declined.

The following photo attached is 13 days since the operation and I have quite a bit of scabs on my head, is it normal to have this many after nearly 2 weeks, also I notice if it touch the scabs then the hair grafts fall out. Quite a lot fell out yesterday, maybe 20-30 all in all, should I be worried or is it normal?

Its normal ...at this stage your grafts are well rooted and you can remove all the scabs by gently apply pressure while washing your head...you can apply olive or coconut oil and keep it for an hour and than can wash it which will soften your scabs and you can remove it easily....you will see hairs falling but don't worry they are hairs and not roots....most of your transplanted hairs will fall off and that is called shedding ..after 2-3 you will see hair popping out again and will start to grow as time pass by...its a long journey my friend ...so don't worry...just be on medication which your doctor prescribed you and you will be fine....hope this helps you ...best of luck ..Happy growing and keep updating ...

Not heard of this doctor but good luck

The scabs and hair shed is normal. You do need to start getting them off though. Apply some conditioner and leave for ten minutes to soften them and then slowly massage them off

Thanks for the advice I emailed my doctor and he responded that evening offering the same advice, so I let the lotion stay in my hair for a while and I applied more pressure this time and slowly worked my way section by section and nearly all the scabs came off, I then carried it out again the next day and all was well.
