Hey guys,
Been reading these forums for a while and thanks for all your posts as they really helped me make the decision to have the surgery.
I had surgery this week at Cosmedica. I was considering a few places but from posts on here, speaking with staff at Cosmedica and the price - I decided to book the trip to Istanbul. I wanted to see Istanbul while there so I booked flights and a hotel through British Airways, I didn't need the accommodation included in the price with Cosmedica so I asked about this and I got this discounted from the cost. I didn't want to stay near the airport as there isn't much to do there or I'd have to spend a lot of time traveling to get to the tourist areas. I stayed at near the Blue Mosque, and still got all the transfers offered. I read online that sometimes times get changed last minute and that was right. We had a few days before the surgery and we were told the day before the surgery what time I would be picked up (2pm). We went out for the day and thankfully came back up the hotel reasonably early since our pick up time had changed from 2pm to 8am.
The next morning I was getting ready and the hotel reception called around 7.00am to say the driver was waiting for us so I told them we weren't due to be picked up until 8am but I would be down ASAP. I messaged Ãzlem and she told me the driver got it wrong and he would wait. Around 7.30 the reception called again and the driver said he would wait a bit longer and then he would leave. He waited though and everything was fine. When I arrived I met Ãzlem who I had been messaging for a few weeks and who had put me at ease throughout it all and my fiancée worrying about traveling to Istanbul so soon after the recent tragedy. I had my blood taken and then I met Dr Spammer for a brief consultation. It was really busy, around 8 other guys I believe so we were seen very quickly. I also saw Dr Acar walking around & he saw some of the other guys. Ãzlem apologised about the driver and asked if I had breakfast, I told her I didn't have time so she gave me a sandwich, but I am vegan so it wasn't suitable, but she got me some fruit. I literally had one bite from my apple and the nurse asked me if I was finished my breakfast so I said I would only be a few minutes and she stood over me making me feel uncomfortable so I felt pressured just to leave the breakfast. I told her I needed to go to the bathroom first, but someone was using the one toilet. She told me to come with her to get my head shaved then go to the toilet. After that the toilet was still in use so she said come with her to have photos taken and then go to the toilet.
I had the photos taken and then I was taken to the small room. They started injecting me and it was agony, I started to feel dizzy and my full body started to shake. I asked her to stop and she just kept telling me not to move and continued to take grafts. I made her stop and told her I had been telling her I needed to go to the toilet and I was feeling dizzy now too. I also thought Dr Spammer would be doing the whole procedure since this is what I was made to believe & I asked about this and she told me that they are nurses and they do it. I was pissed off already about the time being changed last minute, the driver coming early and telling us he would leave, not being able to have breakfast, not being able to go to the toilet before hours of surgery and then now being ignored and huffed at because I felt dizzy. They reluctantly told me to go to the toilet and I told my fiancée I was pissed off and wanted to leave. I told the staff I wanted to speak to Ãzlem and Dr Spammer, Ãzlem had left but another lady was speaking to me telling and I told her I want to speak to Dr Spammer as I want my money back and I want to leave. I spoke with Dr Spammer and he told me he was doing my incisions and explained it in more detail and said this is the most important part. I told him to I still wanted to leave as I believe I had been mislead, he told me my grafts die after 8 hours. We came to an arrangement as I didn't want to lose my grafts and I had already spent a lot of money and didn't want to lose all my grafts.
Dr Spammer performed the incisions afterwards and he also came back later to check on me. Ãzlem had also sent me a whatsapp asking if I needed her to come back to the hospital, but I never had any chance to reply.
I wouldn't say the nurse was rude, but she just seemed to want it done ASAP no matter what. The other nurse though seemed a lot more understanding. The full time there were people constantly going in and out the tiny room, I couldn't see so I had no idea who they all were.
I had made Ãzlem aware before that I was vegan but the lunch wasn't suitable either.
We got a taxi back to our hotel afterwards which Cosmedica covered.
I didn't feel pain that night, but I barely slept just with it being uncomfortable to sleep.
The next morning the same happened, the driver came extremely early. We were rushed again. It was also raining & he decided to drop us down the street from the hotel so I had to walk in the rain, past smoke from food places, people smoking etc.
The next day I got the bandages removed and a little clean up. Ãzlem and Dr Spammer spoke to me about what happened the day before. Then I waited to be given the aftercare they give you for free. I never bought any of the other products.
3 days after surgery and I haven't had much pain, haven't needed painkillers. Sleeping is getting better. Swelling is going down.
I was told I had 4400 grafts. I was told before I had the surgery this would give me about 80% coverage. Do you guys think it looks like I had 4400 grafts? I don't know if they just told me that as they estimated before I booked that I would have 4500 grafts from my head, chest and beard.
