Hair loss at 23

My hair has always been thin and receded at the temples and it has always been a MASSIVE insecurity of mine. i believe it wont go back much more or anything at all due to it staying as it is right now for some time. My father has the same and its stayed the same as and not got any worse, same with his father aswell. I’m currently on intended and minoxidil and have been for about a year, It don't seem to be doing anything for me id love to have a transplant.

always wanted a kind of medium length fluffy/messed up fringe, but my hair is way too thin for this…Any thoughts or opinion?

I will attatch mine and what my fathers is like, my fathers will have the GREEN scribbled out part.

Mine will be scribbled in RED

And a hair type/style Id love to achieve is in YELLOW

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but from what I can see from the photos your hair is nothing like your dads unfortunately.
Your dads looks thick with some recession whereas yours in the clippered down pic looks diffuse thin heading towards nw6.
At 23 I feel your pain as at that age I had lost even more. 23 is way to young to be going down the HT route with your pattern of baldness.
Something can be done for sure in the future (I was 35,now 54 and just had 4th HT) but you can only work with what donor you have and I fear your messy fringe dream is exactly that, a dream.
Stick with the meds or if you really want that look maybe look into hair systems but HT for my two Pennies is a no,no.

Minoxidil doesn't address the underlying cause of hair loss. If you're concerned about your hair loss progressing, you could try finasteride and see if that works.

My father has the same and its stayed the same as and not got any worse, same with his father aswell.

Genetics is very hard to predict. I have a friend who is completely bald yet his older brother still has all of his hair. Go figure. Not that this means that you will lose your hair. My father receded in his early twenties but then it stabilized and his hair has remained the same for the last fifty years. All I'm saying is that it is very hard to know.

I think that you're still a bit young. However, you could still go for some consultations (with reputable clinics, that is.) They'll be able to examine your scalp under magnification (it's difficult to make assessments from photographs) and inform you about what can realistically be achieved. Each person's situation is unique so I honestly think that would be your best bet. I imagine that they'll probably advise you to try finasteride for a couple of years to see if the loss stabilizes. Ultimately preserving what you have is better than trying to regain what has been lost.

I'm not sure if I agree with that assessment. Your hair looks about a Number 1 and the lighting is harsh, so little wonder that some scalp is visible. But I don't wish to start an argument and, as I said, it's difficult to know from photographs, so I could be wrong. The only way to properly assess your hair is to have a professional examine it in person.

If I were you, I get on finasteride quickly, research some reputable clinics, and then go for some consultations to sketch a long-term plan. However, that is only my advice. It's entirely your call what you wish to do. Whatever it is, I wish you the very best.

If you are on Finasteride (your typo) it could be maintains your hair right now if you’re not seeing further loss. You may or may not be responding to the minoxidil. You could speak with your prescriber about the possibility of trying oral minoxidil.
23 is still considered young to have a hair transplant because of the possible future hair loss. If your loss has been stabilised with the meds some clinics may offer you a HT but it would need to be planned strategically to allow for any further hair loss. You could end up having multiple HT`s as you continually chase the loss. Then there is your donor availability. It can only go so far.
If I were in your position I would research into the meds more, try them for a while longer and get a consultation with a HT clinic to have an assessment. If you do have a consult, take what they tell you home and then think about it all.

Could oral minoxidil2.5% give a different outcome to regain 5%? Because I’m on regain 5%, but I can get oral minoxidil which is 2.5% strength

Even with a strength of 2.5%? If so brilliant I will give it a try, I’m not bothered about my hair line what so ever. I just want thicker hair to be able to pull of a decent messy fringe

Oral Minox scares the...out of me, are there people out there willing to take oral minox knowing it can mess up your heart, i understand doing it if you're under supervision of a doc but people just buying it online amazes me.

I'm not against people using it if its under supervision from a doctor, lets not forget this isnt FDA approved. If it was as safe as topical do you think anyone would continue with topical? And theres no guarentee you'll have better results either....try it with supervision sure, but without that...nah.

Oral minox is not a substitute for Finansteride although some Dr like to market it like this these days
