Hair Restoration for Crowns

This is a bit of a blast from the past but shows how a combination of Finasteride and limited surgery can make big inroads.

This patient was in his 40's, was very concerned about his crown and even more concerned that anyone would notice.

He received 1,500 grafts via FUT, uses Finasteride and was very pleased with the outcome..

The crown has always presented the hair transplant surgeon with a dilemma in terms of when to treat as well as how much restoration is appropriate. Whilst it is difficult to be certain of hair loss progression anywhere, crown hair loss deterioration around a transplanted area will potentially result in a pattern that does not occur in nature which is that of an island of hair surrounded by a ring of baldness. Therefore, the later in life the crown is transplanted and the more certain the surgeon is of hair stability, the lesser the risk of the above pattern developing. Early treatment with non-surgical options and stabilizing the crown will hopefully help the surgeon avoid having to make a surgical decision about the crown in the first place.

Nice post Mick. To create a decent crown can use up a lot of grafts but the skill of the doctor is paramount to achieving a natural looking swirl. Crown loss can expand very quickly making a large circumference on top of the head and dipping down towards the donor area. Getting this loss stabilised is what I achieved with Finasteride.
