Hair transplant for the crown.

Hi everyone, first time post after sitting on the sidelines reading and taking in as much information as possible. About myself, I first realised my crown was thinning in my mid twenties, I'm now thirty with a large bald crown with a slight thinning to my hairline. I'm on Propecia which I think has stopped further loss. Would it be realistic to have around 3000 grafts placed into the crown as I've read many times how it's a black hole which doctors don't like using too much donor just incase there is more loss in the future.

It really bothers me have this bald crown, I have a thin covering of hair so when I add Toppik it looks ok, if I'm on Propecia for two years with no more loss in the frontal third would a doctor be prepared to give me the amount of grafts I desire.

IMO if you're not losing hair elsewhere on your head it's not a problem to have that many grafts placed in the crown. Hopefully the meds help you retain your existing hair.

3000 sounds reasonable if your hairloss has stabilised, have you had any consultations?

It all depends on your donor area, but providing you have a good supply and your loss has stabilised then 3000 sounds ok.

Hi Crowning glory and welcome to the forum.

3000 grafts is a high number for just the crown but it really depends on the area that you need to cover and the look you are hoping for. Crowns do require a large number of grafts but if an effective crown swirl is created then other than the immediate centre of the swirl some very effective coverage can be gained. Here's an example a Dr Hasson patient of what just 1500 grafts can do into a thinning crown.

That's an amazing result Garageland with 1500 grafts, I'd say my crown has a wider circumference with less hair than this guy. Thanks for posting this.

Wow very nice....the million dollar question when it comes to HT's is knowing whether your hair loss has stabilised, I mean even when on meds can you ever really know?

Future fue you are correct in saying it all depends on stabilising the hairloss, what if the meds work for so long then they lose their effectiveness and the loss continues. It's a bit of a gamble in this respect.

Hi everyone. I added Rogaine to my regime 6 months ago, I've had new growth plus my hair looks thicker and feels healthier. I'll be sticking to my plan of two years then decide if I get a transplant.
I'd advise anyone in my situation to try the medications first.

That's good to hear you're having a positive response to the meds, try to take monthly pictures so you can keep track of your growth easier.
