Young patient in his late 20 s wanted his hair line restored that fit his active lifestyle yet he was also apprehensive about surgery. Given his young age, Dr. Paul recommended a relatively conservative approach. Patient was thrilled with his results and quickly wanted more ¦ ¦ ¦..

Dr. Ron performed surgery #2 a little more aggressively considering the patient is on ht meds and has healthy hair behind the hairline. Dr. Ron brought the hairline down a little bit as well as addressed the temple points. The patient has above average donor density and supply.

Surgery #1 - Dr. Paul Shapiro 1470 grafts/2386 hairs

Surgery #- Dr. Ron Shapiro 2186 grafts/3622 hairs

Patient is once again thrilled with his results. He does a lot of water activities in the summer so he really couldn t be happier. He normally wears his down with a messy look but we sprayed it wet and combed his hair back to show the new hair line. This patient has unlimited hairstyle options.

Thanks everyone!

Westcoaster,

Yes, he's been on Propecia and Rogaine foam for several years now. One of the reasons why Dr. Ron was able to be a bit more aggressive on such a young patient is because he's on meds. He has a great donor supply remaining should hair loss progress. In the "after" pics, you can see in the transplanted area and behind that he has really healthy, strong hairs.

Janna,

do you know how many grafts were placed in the temple points by chance?

also, do u have any patients who have been on rogaine foam a long time and are still experiencing success? i am thinking about adding it but am worried a bit about shedding and if it will last a long time since im still young.

Hi Hdude,

We didn't record how many grafts went into the temple points but my best educated guess would be 250 to 300 to each side. We typically transplant 450 single hair grafts to the hairline but on this patient, Dr. Ron wanted approximately 900 single's - doubling the normal single hairs we need. Some two hair grafts would have gone into the back part of the temple points as well.

The positive feedback we get from Rogaine foam is when it's used with Finasteride. We've seen enough positive outcome when both are used that we highly recommend them to be used together. I believe we started getting feedback around 4-5 years ago of patients using both so it really hasn't been all that long and difficult to give you long term effect. If you start using the foam, use it just once a day as opposed to twice a day as recommended on the box. We feel it's just as effective if not better because we hear patients seem to experience less chance of shedding with once a day. Good luck.

Looking good. As others have mentioned, the temple point reconstruction is really great and I think it was essential for balance when bringing his hairline down in the second session.
