Hello guys,
I would like to start a new experience report with you today. I decided at short notice to have a hair transplant at Hattingen Hair. I was able to take a break from work for 30 days and that gave me the idea to tackle it.
No sooner said than done.
After a short introductory email to Hattingen, I quickly made a Skype appointment for a consultation with Dr. Muresanu.
I can rate the Skype appointment as very positive. He made a very professional impression on me.
Doctor Muresanu had a few questions about me and the cause of my hair loss. However, I didn't have many questions myself, as you can read up on many things yourself in forums and so on. The nice thing was that he was able to offer me an appointment at short notice on March 6 and 7. Which I later took up.
Brief introduction about myself
I am now 36 years old. My hair loss started when I was about 20 years old. Without any pathological cause or anything else. My hair loss is simply something completely natural (hereditary). I would determine the cause of my hair loss on my mother's side. My uncle, grandfather and cousins all have the same hair loss pattern. No trace of hair loss on my father's side.
Previous therapy
I have not taken any medication before. No finasterid. No chemicals such as Alpecin or Minoxidil. I wash my hair with normal shampoo or sometimes leave it out.
Why? I'm not convinced. I don't take any other medication. So why should I start now?
Clinic selection
The decision to do it at Hattingen Hair was relatively easy for me. Like everyone else, I read up on the subject from time to time in various forums. And the name Hattingen came up very often as a specialist clinic with positive feedback.
Choosing a clinic is certainly very difficult. For me personally, the result is the most important thing, the costs played a subordinate role. It was also important to me that I could continue to wear my hair very short. That's why I ruled out the FUT method right from the start.
I think everyone has to know that for themselves. When I look at pictures, I find the scar very disturbing and in need of care.
Other reasons for me were that other clinics gave me the impression of mass processing. Apart from that, I didn't do much research beforehand. I approached the matter very soberly.
Arrival – Stay- Operation
It is very easy to get here by car from central Germany. Of course, you need a bit of luck, but I didn't have any significant traffic jams. I managed a comfortable 5-hour drive and a short coffee break.
The clinic is on the edge of the German border and was quickly found.
In the back of the car, I had built myself a little place to sleep with a mattress and blanket in case I needed a longer break on the way back. You never know.
I had booked at the Hotel Hohberg in Schaffhausen from March 4th to 9th. And it was really good that I stayed a few days longer. The breakfast at the hotel is really commendable and I had breakfast like a king every morning.
I started exploring the area on March 4. And I have to say, there is a lot to discover there. The town of Schaffhausen is like a typical German old town with really beautiful painted half-timbered houses. There is a castle on the outskirts of Schaffhausen that faces the Rhine.
The hotel itself is located right next to a very interesting, rustic forest. It's a great place to relax, go for a walk and explore the forest. In the forest itself there are interesting little paths and caves that you can explore. So I wasn't bored during the days.
On March 5, there was a short introduction, discussion, getting to know the team, and drawing of the hairline and the further course of the operation.
I slept very well the night before the operation.
Operation March 06 and March 07
The operation was performed by Dr. Muresanu and the main medical assistant Carmen. Carmen has worked in Vancouver for 14 years and was the main FUE assistant for Dr. Hasson.
Carmen always gave me an ibuprofen and a small blue sedative pill before the operation. I took these well.
Then I was placed on the couch with my head down and anaesthetized. Carmen and the doctor then started the extraction together. The other team then sorted and processed the extracted hair. It all went hand in hand.
The whole team transplanted around 5000 Fu over 2 days.
The whole procedure was not particularly unpleasant. Sometimes you lie on your back, sometimes on your stomach and sometimes on your side. A little tugging here and there.
I found the working atmosphere in the operating room to be quite pleasant. Even when getting up after lying down for a long time, Carmen made sure you didn't get dizzy.
In short, you feel that you are in good hands.
I slept very well the first night after the operation. No kidding. And without any painkillers or sleeping pills. I had ordered a neck pillow beforehand and slept in a slightly elevated position. So that I wasn't lying on the operation site. That worked surprisingly well. I have to say that I am a stomach sleeper. That's why I'm a bit surprised myself.
The second night was similar. I slept well. I had no pain.
The days after the operation - return journey
Because I stayed in Switzerland a few days longer, I was able to wash my hair in the clinic every morning. Which was definitely an advantage. You immediately get a feel for how to care for the wound.
But what was even better. The fact that I gave my body time to recover a little before I set off on my return journey.
My head swelled up a bit the following days. I always massaged the lymph a little. In the evenings at the hotel, I used the hotel kettle to wrap hot towels and put them on the back of my neck. Similar to a hot roll.
Apart from that, I couldn't do much else during the days. I had to be very careful with my head.
For the circulation. I went for short walks and nothing else.
The return journey was similar to the outward journey, without any problems. I drove through without stopping.
The following days.
For the first few days, I often kept my head moist with a spray bottle. Which was very pleasant. The head became slightly warm. In addition, the removal sites started to itch slightly. Certainly a normal reaction. From day 4 I started to treat my head with Aloevera. I cut open an Aloevera leaf every day and threw the inside into the blender and applied the paste to my head several times a day and then I had no more problems.
Apart from that, I could see the crust slowly disappearing from my head over the days.
On 21.03.2024 I went for a short run again for the first time. On top of that, I can see how the implanted hair is now slowly starting to fall out.
Now it remains to wait and watch.
