Police had a hairy situation, or lack thereof, in Meriden on Sunday after they busted two men who were allegedly in possession of a large quantity of hair regrowth serum Rogaine.
An off-duty officer was inside the CVS store on East Main Street on Sunday when a security officer, who recognized him, approached and said a man inside the store may be stealing items, said a police spokesman.
The officer called for backup and kept an eye on the suspect, later identified as xxxxxxxxx.
The officer followed the man out of the store. Officers arrested him and his alleged accomplice.
Police say xxxxx was found in possession of a shopping bag lined with metal, McKay said. The bag is typically used to foil security sensors at stores.
Inside of their vehicle they found about $2,600 worth of stolen merchandise from Berlin, Bloomfield, Windsor and Manchester.
Inside of the vehicle, we were able to see a lot of stolen merchandise, the police spokesman said. The vast majority of it was Rogaine.
Rogaine is sold as an over the counter treatment for hair loss.
The two men were charged with third-degree larceny, honest for the same, possession of a shoplifting device and organized retail theft. They were both held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
