Hello Everyone,
So here is the situation. Started receding when about 18/19. Im now 29 nearly and actually the receding has slowed down somewhat. However two years ago noticed thinning at the crown. Started on propecia... I stopped after a month as I thought I was allergic (turns out was something else). Started rogaine for about 10 months. Wasn't sure if it was working so went back to finasteride. Started noticing some side effects after about two months so panicked and stopped.
I have now spent the last 3 months searching what to do and I have hit a bit of a dead end with too much information.
I still have a lot of hair however aware it is getting finer.
I have started back on the rogaine today. But think I need something else to complement it. Im going to try Biotin and maybe propecia again.
If anyone has any advice regarding side effects for propecia I would love to hear. (do they go away after time etc etc).
Also with regards to transplants... I have started looking into. However im worried Ill end up needing endless amounts of transplants and it will run into hundreds of thousands of pound.
Im just a bit lost and could do with some advice!
Many thanks

My plan of action was firstly to find out how much donor FUE I have.

From that I have devised how my donor grafts can be utilised if I end up lets say NW6.

I have taken into my account my current hairstyle and likely hairstyles in the future.

Careful planning ensures you use your donor grafts wisely. No point in using 3500 grafts to lower your hairline if your vertex and mid section aregoing to be slick by the time you are 40. Imagine what you would look like with a Justin Bieber hairline and a Friar Tuck baldspot.

Get a few consultations with some reputable Clinics to ascertain your donor density, likely future balding pattern and the quality of your donor hair.

Best wishes.

Hi almoore1,
You have mentioned a few important points, your age, you still have a lot of hair and if you have a hair transplant it will lead to more and more.

Meds can help sustain your existing hair and maybe improve the quality of the growth, hair quality and strength. They need to be used long term really, and if you stop then expect your hair loss to catch up with where you would have been relatively quickly if you had never used meds.

Side effects generally do not go away, if you suffer from side-effects from using a treatment it will probably remain, if you are talking about unrelated changes to your hair.

A hair transplant is not a cure for hair loss, just the replacement for hair lost in areas, so, if you still have a lot of hair, at 28, and you are still losing hair, and looking at a hair transplant you have to look long term. You can ´t expect one hair transplant to solve the problem and from what you have said maybe not the answer at this stage for you.

I ´m not sure it will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, it should not, but importantly it should give you a result that you understand can be achieved in relation to your ultimate hair loss stage.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me and for the advice.
Im just at the stage now where I don't really know what to do next.
I would rather maintain the hair I have at the minute, but don't mind going down the transplant route eventually. My onl concern as I said would be have transplant after transplant as I have seen some people have had 4 or more, and I also read a transplant to young is dangerous as you could run out of donor hair.
With regards to the propecia side effects I though I was alright... however after reading about the side effects and some of the stories from others I can never be too sure if im suffering the side effects or if its just my imagination...

Finasteride is good to keep native hairs from falling and even thickening them if you are lucky, and you'd be even more lucky if you get regrowth, finasteride is capable of these things, depending on the person.

Biotin is good to help both native hair and transplanted hair grow faster. Not to be confused with "thicker" or stopping hair loss, or getting new hair, just faster growth. I'd stay on Biotin and minoxidil and use fin as well. Maybe the biotin would speed up your HT growth? There's also MSM, it kinda does the same as biotin, basically makes hair and nails grow faster. MSM is also good for the skin, or so i've read. I've used it before and it did make my hair and nails grow super fast.
