28 Years old , started losing hair 17 , the loss pattern is finalized and is an exact replica of my father's . Scalp Donor hair quality is coarse , a little wavy and decent . Also have a vey dense beard and chest .

Heading to HLC clinic in Ankara for the first session next week , I have had a live consultation with Dr John Cole 1.5 year ago in Los Angeles. He recommended Dr Ozgur/the HLC clinic in Ankara because of the graft survival rate and beard/chest grafts pivotal role in my restoration in which HLC has a lot experience in .

Will keep you updated with detailed posts and weekly pictures of my progress . Fingers crossed .

Hello Kash, thanks for sharing your story.
Having your fathers hair loss pattern as a indicator how you’ve ended up is helpful. With you saying this is your final norwood pattern I take it you’re not on any meds. If not, they still have the ability to strengthen donor grafts.
Your beard looks to be a good donor resource that will help with density.
I know Dr Ozgur and have met quite a few of his patients. I’d say you’re in capable hands and it’s nice of Dr Cole to point you to his colleague.
How many grafts are you hoping for with this first surgery?
I’ll look forward to following your progress.
All the best.

Hi Bigmac,
Thank you for your reply.
Around 3600-4000 for the first surgery.
I am currently at the HLC clinic in Ankara, the first surgery day is planned for tomorrow.
Regarding with Meds , I had very bad sides from finasteride . Minoxidil on the other hand gave me no sides but really did not do anything for me.
I will keep you posted with during and post op pictures next.

I’m looking forward to seeing your surgery pictures and how they distribute the grafts. I’m thinking concentrate on the frontal half but will wait to see what transpires. I took another look at your pictures which show you have an abundant supply of chest hair too.

If you see Goekhan, say Brian from HLE sends his regards.

You may be a better responder to oral minoxidil. Although, you stated your hair loss pattern has stabilised so meds may not be necessary. The doctor can advise on this once he checks out your donor.

All the best with the surgery.

Are you having surgery directly with Dr. Ozgur? They had multiple hair doctors when i was in touch several years ago to which i was informed i could be allocated any one of the doctors on the day of surgery. Because i had researched Dr. Ozgur but not guaranteed he would do the surgery i put it on the back burner. My pattern of loss is similar to you - bordering nw5 with crown in the early stages of dipping. I am keen to see your surgery and follow your journey - thank you and best regards.

I'm also keen to see the results of this one as HLC is a possibility for me just struggling to find results from them

Hi Everyone ,

Today I am officially a week post surgery , back home in the US and will share my honest experience :

HLC operation is a one well oiled machine , from the start Ms Ebru took care of everything and coordinated things perfectly. To be honest the time for consultation was a bit short since many patients had consultations the same day . I do not think Dr Ozgur performs surgeries anymore , he is the one who you will have your consultation with (Design and planning of the HT) . He was very absolutely on top of everything , super smart and professional . Main part of the surgery was done with Dr Cengiz and partly Dr Ali . No complications , everything went smoothly .Had some swelling on my face but that went away after day 5 . . They took 5216 grafts (3800 head , 1400 beard ) . The area that was done was front and mid scalp , front 45 grafts per sq/cm2 and midscalp 40 density . I wish I could address some small parts of side crown too , in that regard I am a bit worried that I have not much donor left for back there . I insisted on incorporating chest hair for some midscalp/side crown but that did not happen , Dr Ozgur was more keen on SMP in the future .

HLC is a quality clinic , they do great work . They timed everything perfectly , post-care instructions were on point , they took care of the airport transfer and even the PCR test for flight back

Worries that I have :

1. Head donor maybe a little over harvested .

2. I cannot address the crown /side crowns in the future .

3. I do not like SMP in the long run , I rather have tons of body hair on my scalp (even though characteristic are different) and always buzz it down with number 3 than do SMP . Our hair in our family line goes gray very fast and in that case SMP will be completely useless ,pointless and weird .

But will try to stay positive and keep my fingers crossed . The thing is that I drove Uber on the side for months , borrowed from family , used 3 credit cards to be able to afford this surgery . I just hope at the end it turns out OK .

Will post detailed pictures with timelines shortly .

Thanks for coming back and reporting on your experience. Everything sounds like it was positive except the placement areas. As to over harvesting, we will see what it looks like once you post your pictures and enough time passes to allow the donor area to fully recover.
They’ve placed at a decent density but I hear your concerns regarding the lower crown. They must have thought the grafts were better utilised in the areas they worked on.
I trust the post op healing is going well and will look forward to seeing your pictures.
All the best.
