How long does post op redness last?

Hi, i had a transplant 3 months ago and i`d like to know how long the redness is supposed to last. The redness has been fading slowly but still very evident. I had 3423 grafts with only a few new hairs popping through. The redness looks as though my head has sunburn and feels sore to touch. Can anyone suggest something i can use to make the redness go quicker? I have tried aloe vera gel which soothes it but does not make the redness go away.

The redness should fade away even further in the coming month so I would not be overly concerned. Everyone has their own pace for healing and you are a little slower on that side. The important thing to note is it is Fading ,so patience is the name of the game. I would recommend going for walk and letting the cool fresh air at your scalp, even if you do it at night .
I used Aloe Vera gel myself after my own HT and found it was soothing and refreshing.
It's still very early yet after 3 months to see anything major on the growth side, give it another month or two and you will see the difference Im sure.

Hi Paddy thanks for the suggestions especially about going out at night for a walk. Been keeping a loose hat on during the day to keep the Sun away but during the night it will be ok and no one will take notice of my head. I just did not expect the redness to last this long and was hoping for a fair bit of growth. I hope it's gone and i have decent growth around 6 months when i'm best man at a wedding.

3 months is still early to see growth unless you are fortunate enough to be an early grower.
I take it you never had any scalp conditions prior to surgery?
Unfortunately for some redness can linger around for 6 months but 3-4 months it’s usually gone. There’s a good chance yours will be gone soon. I used Aloe Vera which you are using anyway, it is good stuff and does stop the itching. If sore try not to scratch as it makes it more inflamed.
Keep out the direct Sun but as Paddy suggested, going out at night is a good option to let let your scalp breathe and heal itself.

Hi Bigmac thanks for the additional advice. My head does feel itchy, i have an irresistible urge to scratch but i do refrain from doing so. One night i must have scratched it in my sleep which caused some slight bleeding, nothing drastic, as though i`d scratched a zit. Going to slap some aloe on and then off for a walk. Hoping i`m back to normal soon.

Hi,
At three months mine scalp was still a little red. At four months it is back to normal. Just needs time.

Hi Pete that's reassuring for me. I originally thought maybe a month at most but now I know it can linger a lot longer.

I hope the walk has worked for you. As for the bleeding, it happens and nothing to worry about at this stage, just inconvenient.

The walks feel good, a bit too early to notice any change but pleasant all the same. I am going to give Tea Tree oil a whirl to see if that helps speed things up. it says it helps soothe, speeds up growth, plus it's a natural product with no chemicals added.
