How much of the surgery should your chosen Dr perform ???

As per the thread title I am interested to know how much of the procedure and what parts of the procedure should the chosen Dr perform ?
I am aware that Drs have technicians , I would expect a top quality Dr to only employe top quality , well trained , experienced technicians. Ideally I personally would want to know that the technicians have been working with the particular Dr for a long time. However if I was booking with a high profile Dr what should be the expectation of his involvement? Will he be in the room throughout the whole process ? How much of the process does he carry out himself or herself etc ?
Looking forward to hearing what should be expected ?
Thanks in advance

You will find there is only a limited number of doctors who are present during the whole surgery. Some will only make the incisions, some will do all or part of the extractions. They may be in an out of the surgery room while the techs place the grafts. It is really down to what you expect. If you choose a doctor because they say they do various aspects of the surgery, then that is what you should expect.

It seems the trend is to more technician performed hair transplants. Obviously cheaper and more efficient for the clinics. Especially so when it comes to the FUE punching. Personally I would expect the Dr to do the donor planning, checking etc and punching the grafts. Also the Dr make the sites for the grafts to be put into. Because that dictates the look, density etc, with the technicians placing the grafts. I think it is probably unnecessary for a Dr to be in the room all the time, but certainly checking constantly on what their team is doing. I agree with you hopeful that the technicians are trained by the Dr, everyone has to start somewhere but this should be reflected in their responsibility.

Sometimes the techs are better at Fue extracting than the doctor that employs them. Some techs are very skilled. Some people don’t mind who does the extracting and placement while others prefer it to be the doctor. What are your preferences?

Well I’m sure a top Dr will only employee highly skilled techs or techs the Dr as trained and as full confidence in as it’s there name and reputation on the line. We all talk about certain Drs and if your sensible spend lots of time researching before deciding who to go with but I’m interested to know just exactly how much does the Dr carry out. How involved in the procedure are they. I’ve always known that techs play a part in the procedure but thought the main person in charge is the Dr. Certainly a question for consultations - to ask how much of the work the Dr carries out and to ask the experience of the techs ?

Yes, the points you raise are very valid and worth asking during a consultation. Well
trained established techs should be able to carry out a lot of the surgery without the presence of the doctor. In my experience the doctor will be in and out checking on the parts of the surgery that’s delegated. Then a final check once the surgery is complete.
There are doctors out there who do the whole surgery with techs assisting in other parts such as sorting the grafts, keeping them cool and moist etc.
