Interesting FUE on a previous flap procedure.

Flap procedures are an outdated approach to hair restoration. This procedure is very invasive and can potentially have many serious side effects. This procedure has been abandoned for the most part in most countries.

In this example this patient had a flap procedure in 1997. The flap procedure is where a clinic surgically cuts the temporal sides of a persons donor scalp and sutures it into balding area. As one can imagine if the side of ones scalp is all at once moved into the frontal hairline in a 5 to 7cm swath, there could be potentially a plethora of problems that can occur. In this case the frontal hairline had a very stark appearance and in fact the entire flap was markedly dense from the hairline into the vertex area.

Our physicians decided to reverse FUE in portions of the hairline to thin it out and to transplant in front of it with 1 haired follicular units to revise the hairline. (Not shown here).

What is shown below is where we did an FUE on the remaining flap behind the hairline into the vertex and thinned it out.

Finally we performed another strip and transplanted both FUE and the strip grafts mostly into the crown.

The pictures here show a before, middle, and after FUE within an area that is never FUE'd... in what would be normally the recipient area... well with the exception of this case. [):h::'''h;h;;h

I do still get the odd email from people asking for flat and scalp reductions surgery believe it or not.

Hard to believe people were subjected to this, my heart goes out to them.

Here is an updated picture 1 day post op. The "purple" effect in the crown is a trick that many clinics use dye the incisions. The incisions will stand out better, which helps the implanters.

The flap procedure was very invasive surgically and FUE procedures are becoming more popular among hair transplant surgeons and hair loss patients. These FUE procedures are quite painless and form no any scars on donor parts. The patient got good volume of hair, I believe.
