Is it normal for more hair to fall out initially after using a laser light hair loss treatment helmet?

I'm new to using laser hair loss helmet treatment. Am 51 years old and started to get a bit of pattern hair loss on the crown. But still a head full of hair otherwise. Had a hair massage today and the massage therapist was alarmed at the amount of hair that fell out. I've used the laser helmet 3 times so far. Is this normal? Obviously i don't want to find out that I'm damaging what I have already got. But, what is happening? Can anyone advise please?

I’ve not heard of laser helmets causing hair to fall out. Did you buy it from a reputable supplier?
Laser treatment on its own will do little to nothing for hair loss.
Do you have a picture of your crown?
Have you considered hair loss medications that are proven to work?

Hi Bigmac, thanks for getting back. I’m also using Regaine. Only just started though. Apart from that and the Theradome Pro laser helmet, I’m just trying to keep the sculp clean with Aveda products- nothing very special. The helmet I bought direct from Theradome UK. Perhaps my hair was going to fall out during massage with or without the laser treatment. But thought I’d double check if anyone has had this sort of experience when first use the laser device. Attached a pic of my crown. I’m going to start taking some supplements - I live in the UK and Boots chemists does a pill specifically for hair, skin and nails. It contains vit B, folic acid amongst other things.

Regaine is the UK brand name for minoxidi. since I’m just starting, I want to try everything non-invasive first

The Regaine will have caused your hair to shed. This is a response to the Regaine beginning to work it’s magic.

Ah really. I hadn’t applied the Regaine all over, just at the top of the crown. But the hair loss seems to be from other parts of the head. Like the side and back when I there’s never beeen any regaine. Is that normal? I’ve used the product for about a week.

Speak to a medically qualified person. Put the question to them as I honestly do not know if using Minoxidil on the crown would cause hairs to shed or fall out in other parts of your head.

thanks. I’m trying to get to see a dermatologist. But in the mean time have stopped the minoxidil. But it doesn’t seem to do any harm continuing with the laser helmet.
