Is this a bald spot?

The picture below (taken from a recent tabloid) is of Paul McCartney. Given his age (80 this year), I think his hair is doing remarkably well (much better than mine, at under half his age). The paper gleefully reports that he now has a bald spot (which I guess would make me Telly Savalas by comparison). I know that I shouldn't take tabloids seriously, but is this really a bald spot, as opposed to merely mild thinning? This may seem silly, but I find it difficult to keep things in perspective, when I repeatedly come across such things in the media.

It looks like mild thinning, however, I’ve not really looked at his hair from years ago to compare.

I think don't think so but it might be a sign of receding hair lines..

I think it is very mild thinning, not enough to warrant any sort of attention. However, given that this sort of thing is repeatedly represented in the media as being bald, I think it is little wonder that so many people develop body dysmorphia.
