Is witch hazel safe 10/11 Days post op

Hi guys I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on the safety of using witch hazel 10/11 days and onwards. The reason is I have 2 small boils or spots in my recipient area and thought witch hazel would help as tea tree oil might be too harsh at this stage.

I`ve not heard of Witch Hazel causing any problems 10 days post op. I`d have no concerns using it on myself. Have you tried applying a warm damp on the boils to help them clear up?
It would be great if you could document your surgery in the patient section.

Hi Bigmac ooops sorry for that I didn't realise I posted in the wrong section. Thanks for your answer I started some warm compresses also and with a touch of witch hazel seems to be helping

This section is fine for questions. Was asking if you could start a new topic documenting your story in the patient section.
Good to hear they are healing. Many people get these sore pimples and boils after surgery. If like me, you can`t help but touch them.

You really should ask your doctor about this and keep them updated on any developments in your recipient and donor zones. However, I think witch hazel is awful for recipient areas so soon after surgery. Proper antibiotic ointments should be used and is probably what your clinic will recommend you use but Bigmac's suggestion is also a good one but as long as an ointment is used afterwards to prevent infection.

Hi Joe thanks for the response I only used the witch hazel once per day since the 10th day post op (3 times in total) and no scabs or redness present etc in the recipient as I heal super quick. I will take your advice and contact the clinic but as of now I don't have any boils/pimples.
My question is do you think I could of damaged some grafts applying a small amount to the effected area/boil 3 times?? As I'm a little concerned now;;D

No, you used a small amount, so you're fine and it was localized. I don't like witch hazel post-op because it has 14% alcohol and alcohol is not an ideal ingredient to use in anyone's immediate post-op regimen.


But like I said, you have no reason to be concerned at this point. You're fine.

Not every witch hazel formulation is going to contain 14% alcohol, and I assume there are probably formulations around without any alcohol at all.

Correct, there are formulations that are alcohol free but by definition, traditional witch hazel has 14% alcohol.
