Hey guys,
I'm feeling better, lost the jetlag and the head/chest cold is still with me, albeit greatly diminished, and I've had enough energy to put together the first in a series of videos about Prohair SMP Clinic. This first video is simply a collection of some of my "on the fly" video updates as I was traveling so you won't actually see anything about Prohair yet. When I was in Belgium I just didn't have time to shoot and upload near real time updates as I intended since everything was happening so fast. In this video I just share some of my thoughts as I travel through airports and then as I'm being driven by Bart from the airport to Heist op de berg, where Prohair is located. I guess you could call this a teaser since I'm also using new software to put it all together (Final Cut Pro X).
A few things I learned on this trip.
1.) Being a one man docu-film crew and "performer" is extremely tough. No one can set the settings for you and it is easy to forget what some of the settings are that you need for each shoot.
2.) It is not easy shooting a full day's worth of video then offloading it to my Mac, then backing up on my external drive and creating an online backup through hotel wi-fi all while I'm trying to get cleaned up for dinner. We're taling multiple gigabytes, people. I recorded 120gb on my journey in total (includeing Belgium, Turkey and Milan).
3.) It is not easy doing all this while jetlagged
4.) Always ALWAYS check settings before shooting begins NO MATTER how impatient you or your subject matter may appear to be.
5) Practice, practice, practice with your new gear before you start the journey! Photography is my strong suit, video is not so I had to get used to some concepts I'm not familiar with and I have now realized that autofocus with DSLR video is not a good thing.
Some of the video is shaky, some is out of focus, but it is the content that matters so hopefully some of you will take something away from this video series that you can use for your own benefit.
This will be the permanent thread for all the video updates as they become available so watch this space in the future. I anticipate the next video will be available this coming week.
