Longitudinal studies about FUE

Hello,

I note there is scare longitudinal studies about FUEs and so this poses the question of:

How do we know FUE is safe in the long-term? (as in how do we know in 10, 20, 30 years time some sort of complication will not happen?)

FUE has been around for 20 years. What type of complications are you thinking of?

Serious complications - it could be anything. Or it could be something a little bit less serious, but still not desirable. For example, if you lose your transplanted hair (i think I'm losing mine!) and then you end up with a scalp that has incision dots that can be quite visible under the reflection of the light. (it looks quite horrible, to be honest).

I read a review the other day, they sent out surveys to HT patients who undertook the procedure from 1 to 10 years. The responses was a mean of 2.9 years. Not really long enough to study its longer-term effects.

For example. you will see a question online of whether HT causes cancer. The answer is, thankfully, overwhelmingly no. However, I have not seen any studies that support this notion. The responses are mainly located in HT websites - and so it's expected that they say no.

To my knowledge I don`t think there has ever been a confirmed case that a HT was the cause of Cancer. As you point out, scarring is a complication that can occur. It is more so in the donor area as a circular piece of tissue is removed. In the recipient area, its a slit that is made. These will usually heal very well when performed by a competent person.
