Making sites for FUE grafts.

This is a picture of Dr. Paul making a site. This is at the end of this case. He usually saves a few 1's for the end of most all of our cases to "tweak" the hairline. Both he and Ron Shapiro are very particular in hairline design and approach.

This patient had a typical regression (age 39 years) of about a norwood 2/3 and needed to fill this in and build a new hairline.

The blades we use are fine. They range in a 0.65mm to just over a 1.0mm depending on graft size. This blade was a 0.7mm.

One other thing worth noting is how clean the transplant looks like at this point. This is because of site size and experienced technicians. Some clinics will have the "hamburger helper" look (bloody, crusty, etc) from usage of large blades and punches for that matter.

I know SMG spray and clean the blood away while performing a HT, this makes the post op area look nice and clean.

I heard that some clinics leave some blood there, the crusty look as they believe the clot/scab that forms helps to secure the graft quicker.

Ya that is a good theory and there are many many clinics that do not have a problem with the crusty bloody hamburger helper look.

In my opinion the smaller blades is what leaves a cleaner look.

I prefer the clean post op look, however if I were able to conceal the transplanted area I would not mind either as long as I got the best possible outcome.

Apart from the yellow blobs, the above example doesn't look too messy.

Every patient and clinic is different, however this is a good example of a "small blade usage" case... which in my opinion can create a situation where "sites" can be made closer in proximity.
