Hi all,

With the rise of discount FUE clinics lately, we are seeing more and more of these depleted donor cases. This particular gentleman came in for repair following an FUE procedure which was sold to him as a ''scarless procedure'' a couple of years ago.

With only 2 session of SMP treatment taking 45 minutes each session, we were able to visually improve his donor region using Alivio ink.

How many grafts can be extracted before there is a noticable difference in density?

Thanks all!

@ Todd - depending on the donor density, most patients have between 5,000 - 7,000 usable grafts before the area looks depleted. Often depleted donors occur when a large punch is used with an irregular extraction pattern. Essentially too many grafts are removed over a small area, which results in obvious moth eaten patches.

Here's an example of a regular extraction pattern using a 0.8mm trumpet punch, removing 1 out of every 4 - 5 hairs to leave sufficient density.

Good to know there are options to address depleted donor areas but it's worrying that it's happening more and more frequently.

Sadly it is becoming more and more common. Most men wish to keep a shorter military style hair cut also. In the last 6 months we've had over 30 enquires seeking donor repair!
