So anyone reading this is on this forum because like me they have been worrying about hair loss, are considering a transplant and are correctly doing research. You ve probably been researching and reading about various treatments, procedures and specialists for months if not years. In fact let s be honest your hair is probably a bit of an obsession.
After searching, researching and paying one surgeon a £100 for nothing more than a 10 minute consultation and the revelation that I needed 3,500 grafts, which even I knew not to be true, I d almost given up.
Then quite by chance I came across an article online which was an interview with Dr Edward Ball of the Maitland Clinic. I liked what I read, so I then looked up the short videos Dr Ball has up on YouTube and I liked what I heard. So I got in touch with the senior patient advisor David who called me up for a chat. From the outset he put me at ease. There was no pressure, no sales pitch, just a nice helpful conversation. I went ahead and arranged a consultation With Dr Ball and from the outset I was made to feel very relaxed and welcome. Over the course of a good 40 minutes, Dr Ball and David asked lots of questions, gave me the opportunity to ask as many question as I wanted and more importantly Dr Ball asked me what my expectations were and then explained what he thought he could do for me. The number of grafts he suggested were way less than that number quoted to me by the previous surgeon, and the price didn t terrify me either. Again there was no pressure and I left the meeting feeling really positive. So positive in fact that a couple of weeks later I booked myself in for the procedure.
I can only say that it was the right choice. On the day of the procedure I was made to feel very comfortable and at ease. And surprisingly the day was incredibly relaxing. Not once did I feel uncomfortable. Dr Ball and his team took excellent care of me, I even sat back and watched a film during part of the procedure. All in all I had 1211 hairs transplanted to my temples and front to bring the hairline down a little. I can only say that I found the whole experience very relaxing. No stress, no pain.
Over the next few days the swelling came, but it had all but gone within a couple of days. I even had a visitor over to the house four days after the procedure and he didn t not even notice I d had anything done at all. Following the aftercare instructions, the donor area healed up very quickly and I could start to see how my hairline would look and I can t tell you how good it made me feel. Just seeing how your hair will look in a few months time is the best feeling.
The shedding has happened now and most of the transplanted hair has fallen out, but I am confident that in a few months my hairline will look great.
I ve had phone calls from Dr Balls assistant to see how things are going and emails from Dr Ball checking up on me. This just goes to show that once you leave the surgery you are not forgotten. I know Dr Ball is there should I need any advice.
This was a huge decision for me and not one I took lightly, but I am absolutely positive I made the right decision in choosing the Maitland clinic. Everything before the procedure, during and afterwards has been excellent.
If you are thinking about having a procedure or simply want to chat about your options then I urge you to, at the very least, do get in touch with Dr Ball and his team at the Maitland clinic. You won t regret it.
