My Hair Loss Story

Hi all,

Thought it was time I joined and introduced myself.

My name is Jack, I`m almost 44 years of age, been suffering with hair loss since my twenties. This has always had a huge effect on my self esteem as I always felt ugly and older than my real age. I avoided social situations as I felt people were looking at me thinking how old I look which affected my confidence. I developed anxiety, depression and a general social phobia as a result.

I tried all the snake oils, shampoos, serums, vitamin tablets, which all failed miserably. I then discovered Minoxidil but it was way too expensive so I basically gave up and become somewhat of a recluse. Several years ago I began looking into Minoxidil again, found the price was dramatically less expensive than a decade ago so I gave it a go. Unfortunately for me it felt as though my scalp was on fire so I stopped the use.

Decided to give Propecia a go although I had concerns after reading possible side effects, thankfully I never experienced any which enabled the continuous use. I`m not sure if there has been new growth, what is has done is keep my remaining hair which is great, wish I`d started using it earlier.

I`ve had professional help for my depression, things are looking better for me but my hair still bothers me which is why I decided to join here and tell my story all be it a little vague. Now I`m thinking possibly a hair transplant will help boost my confidence, looking at pictures on here I`d say I`m a Norwood 4. It will take me some time to sort consults out with clinics I decide on but time is what I have plenty of.

That's the introduction done. Looking forward to learning more.

Thanks Jack.

Welcome to the forum Hairlossguy. You'll find loads of very useful info here.

You're in a great position as you have stabilised your hair loss and have the time to really research your options moving forward.

All the best with your research.

That's good that you have the time to do a proper research now. You'll want to research to narrow down your list to 4-5 clinics and consult with them. Then narrow down from there. Best of luck!

Thank you Pete and Janna for the advice. I`ll certainly take my time researching, I`m compiling my own list of questions I`ll be asking soon.

Ok first question.
How many grafts on average would it take to create a hairline on the average Norwood 4 guy?
