Nizoral shampoo - is it worth it?

Hey all,

Reading so many mixed reviews about Nizoral shampoo. Some people saying it’s a must alongside Finasteride. Others are saying it’s pointless and that finasteride alone is enough. I am taking finasteride.

I had a hair transplant 3 months ago, and have been advised by my surgeon to use Nizoral daily. I find it doesn’t have the best cosmetic affect, so I just use it 2 times per week.

Some people online are saying not to use it after a hair transplant (until 1 year after), as it could potentially impact the growth of the new hair and have a negative impact - is this true?

Would love to hear peoples opinions. Is it worth using Nizoral twice a week? Could it potentially have a negative impact on my recent hair transplant?

No shampoo will have much, if any impact on hair growth. The active ingredient ketocanazole is an antifungal agent. It’s effective for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. Quite a few people get dandruff when using topical minoxidil, they use the Nizoral to alleviate this. It can be quite harsh on your hair making it feel dry. I would stick to using it twice a week. It won’t have a negative effect on your HT but if worried, don’t use it. The Finasteride you’re on should be sufficient.

For a shampoo to work it would have to sit on your scalp for hours to allow any chance of systemic absorption. Most people will be lucky to leave it on for 5 minutes before washing off.

I heard it used for hair loss but I was never sure how it could help. It is a scalp problem shampoo in my eyes and the transplant hair is going to grow normally with or without the shampoo. If you have a scalp problem it is probably worth using a couple of days a week but not for hair growth.

4 awesome repairs with SMG
I used it regularly and found it really dried my scalp...I'd stick to a couple of times a week too. It wont do anything for regrowing your hair though dude, but will help keep your scalp in good condition if you suffer from dandruff etc.
Not really a must in my opinion unless you have dandruff but has been spouted as part of a hairloss regime for a long time......1 to 2 times a week should be sufficient in my opinion.

My understanding of this product is that it is highly effective at ridding the scalp of the sebum. DHT builds up in the sebum, and the sebum sits on the follicles, so increased DHT damage is inflicted on the follicles. It is widely known as one of the three heavy weight preventatives alongside Fin and Minox. Keep using twice a week IMO
