non shedding of transplanted grafts

With my procedeur with Greece i got around 600 hairs(not grafts) although i suspect a bit less,however i didnt shed many grafts and nearly all grew right away i know this because these grafts stood out like a sore thumb for the wrong reasons.

Ive already had a punch out done 3months ago with smg and im going back in oct to be grafted again,problem is im going to new zealand after xmas and so far no one has noticed anything because well i havent left my house since i got the punch out done so im hoping for similiar immediate growth again so i can go traveling..

How many people here had a transplant that grew without shedding or little shedding or a complete shed?

Most patients will in fact shed a higher percentage of the grafts post-op. The trauma level sustained has alot to do with how many shed and how many take right off and continue to grow. Very difficult to predict.

I didnt shed many of the transplanted grafts either (maybe 10 %)after 2 procedures,they kept growing which I was pleased about and I know this for sure because they made up my hairline.Think it is rare but welcome.Maybe its to do with an individuals physiology.

I wonder if the grafts are out of the body for only a very short time would they have a greater chance to continue growing without shedding..example being if one was to punch out one graft and implant it almost immediatly would the graft still shed its hair..i know that isnt practical but the theory behind it has me curious.

I`ve heard of this before,implanting the graft as soon as its trimmed.Will try and find the info again.

My grafts were taken out in morning and not put back til the afternoon some 4/5 hours later so time out wasnt a factor in my case.

When is it safe to presume the grafts wont shed..if they grow to a certain length is it safe in thinking they are growing rather than shedding or maybe a time line say 6-8 weeks?

I know its next to impossible to predict but those two factors i mentioned above may be something to think about..

A lot of my grafts had shed by the 3 weeks mark so I hope its not too soon! lol About 10% of my grafts haven't shed though which seems normal.

Having spoke to a few others they said the same as well though I have read of a lot of people only losing them at 4 and 6 weeks.

To be honest I think a lot of it has to do with your clinics post op routine i.e. how soon you can start shampooing normally and whether you use saline spray or grafcyte to keeps the area most post op. Obviously the sooner you are touching the area the sooner the hairs are likely to shed.

Would be interesting to hear a clinics opinion on this though as opposed to a novice opinion such as mine.

Certainly in my own experience I shed more as I wash and massage well one week post op. Week two some still there and then week 3 most hairs shed and have dis-engaged through massage etc. Beard hair grafts both in my case and through speaking to others appear more likely to not shed but to grow. Most as said have had a lot of shedding week 3, very few keep a high percentage of scalp hairs post this week if they are indeed washing well.

We have very rare cases that did not shed at all. Most people shed as SL states above.

As far as i remember the only cases that did not shed where the some smaller sessions, never the bigger sessions.

Expect to shed, if not than you are really lucky

Whilst I cannot verify an exact number, I'd say that I'd shed about 60% of the grafts by week 3. It's now week 5 and I've not really lost that much more - so I've shed about 60-70% in total. The remaining ones also appear to be growing like the native hair.

Whether this is a bad thing or a good thing I don't know. Personally, I'm happy that some of my grafts are growing this early! However, some may criticise me for now being more rigorous or aggressive washing the recipient area.

So yeah, no idea if this will have any impact on the final result.

It should not affect your final result. Actually it appears to me that your transplanted follicles are behaving just the way that they should by retreating into the resting (telogen) phase. So the remaining roughly 40% that took off and continued to grow are remaining in the growth (anagen) phase for now. They will also eventually cycle and go dormant as the others have done.

One thing that I am hearing more about is that some guys experience a shed in the next full cycle period.

Hey hairtech, I am doing great and thanks for asking. You see, I almost died two years ago with terminal lung cancer. I lost my right lung and went through some heavy duty chemo which almost killed me. I lost all of my hair on my entire body. They gave me only a 10% chance to survive. So I went ahead and made my last will and even purchased my grave plot while I still had some strength left. I lost sooo much weight, you would never recognize me today. For real brother.

Yet I stayed working because the bills keep coming whether one is sick or not. Present day, the oncologists and other specialists are shocked that I survived and am 100% cancer free! I have sooooo much to be thankful for.

And wow you are cancer free now! Lung CA is one of the tough ones to beat. I am so glad you did.
