4 awesome repairs with SMG
just read this article from medicalnewstoday.com.... ive copied it below thoughts?

One of the UK's leading cosmetic surgeons is calling for age restrictions on hair transplant surgery, after seeing an alarming rise in the number of teenage boys wanting to go under the knife.

Dr Bessam Farjo, co-founder of The Farjo Medical Centre and past President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, has seen a 23 per cent increase in enquiries coming from men aged 20 years or under over the past 12 months. Some of the enquiries the centre has received have come from the parents of boys as young as 16-years-old.

Dr Farjo explained: "Hair loss can be quite unpredictable in its early stages, with the full extent of loss difficult to determine in men under the age of 30. Men under this age should consider taking preventative drugs such as propecia, in an effort to slow down or stop their hairloss. However, a few online sources and commercial clinics are encouraging very young men to consider surgery to restore both their follicles and self-esteem."

He added: "Whilst there are many regulated forums and websites which offer sound advice, there is also a lot of inaccurate information being passed around on social networking forums."

"Surgery may improve the hairline of very young men in the short term; however, if further hair loss occurs they could find themselves with inconsistent coverage, giving them a 'patchy' look."

"Sadly, some clinics appear to be taking advantage of these vulnerable patients by agreeing to perform surgery and not advising them of the potential long-term results."

Whilst nothing can be done to stop incorrect advice being given over the internet or through non-medical sales people, Dr Farjo insists it is the responsibility of the professionals offering the treatment to advise when surgery is not an appropriate course of action. He also wants to see legal guidelines put into place to protect vulnerable and younger men.

As the UK's leading hair transplant specialists, The Farjo Medical Centre operates a strict screening process and will not treat anyone who they feel is not suitable for surgery. The centre also offers a genetic test which indicates the extent of expected hair loss, be it a slightly receding hair-line or complete hair loss.

Dr Bessam Farjo and his wife, fellow surgeon Dr Nilofer Farjo, carry out more than 300 operations each year at their Manchester clinic. More than 4,000 people have travelled from across the UK, Europe and as far as the Middle East, Australia and the United States, to the Farjo Medical Centre.

The centre has an international reputation for not only using the latest hair transplantation techniques - recognised throughout the surgical field - but for placing significant emphasis on developing pioneering ways to counter hair loss.

I have to say that most clinics... clinics that care and have the experience and education for this particular problem... already KNOW this! Geez...

We (a few of us) saw that there was at least one clinic in particular, but I am sure there are more... that started to take advantage of the young desperate patient (teens and folks in there early 20's)... to restore their adolescent hairline... but we knew that this was not optimal for a future hairloss... And now we (and other clinics) are repairing these patients. This is terrible. No one takes into consideration a future hair loss.

why?

Interesting article but as Hairtech says, this subject is discussed all the time on the forums.

I dont know how it could have any legal legislation as at 18 you are considered an adult and can make your own decisions.

I wonder if this forum is one he thinks offers sound advice,i hope so and wonder which social networking forums pass the inaccurate information.

I think absent extenuating circumstances, a HT patients should be 21 or older.

I would like to see clinics set a 23 year old limit or older, as well as requiring clinics to educate patients on both methods of extraction FUE/STRIP even if they do not offer one method.

It is not enough, but it is a start.

Different doctors,different aproaches.

You will get one doctor who will turn down a 23 year old who is heading towards the norwood 6 area and then another doctor will provide the guy with a 3000 plus HT depleteing his donor and possibly causing future problems for the patient.

I believe the patient must have a few consults, then when he decides on a doctor, said doctor should get the patient on meds and monitor his situation for at least one year. Then make another diagnosis and decide what course of action to take if any.

I am tired of seeing patients that are very young that have gone to one of only... well heck just one clinic that provides an adolescent hairline without regard to future hairloss. And it really sucks that these patients have t go thru serial punch outs and serial hairline corrections. Most of the seasoned posters such as bigmac and others saw this coming 3 years ago.[):h::

I dont belive these statistics, if you follow the many forums you will rarely see a person under the age of 20 wanting a hair transplant. Whilst some of the points in this article are relevant - i would point out that they have been discussed many many times on the forums and this article is nothing more than self promotion. He points out that non medical people are giving incorrect advice, this in itself is contradictory as he is quite happy to let a person with no medical qualifications assess and evaluate his surgical prowess.

If the Farjo clinic read this - could you ask your American, Australian and Middle Eastern patients to post their results for all to see

Hair transplant is the best and permanent way of hair restoration. One of my friend had under gone hair transplants and now he is having good hair.

that is bullsh*ttt!!

sorry for the bad language but i beleive everyone should have there own choice as to when they think it is right to have the transplants done. Aslong as they are fully aware of all treatment methods and educated in the matter

youve got to remember the younger you are the harder it is to cope with hair loss, i may be currently the youngest memeber and i can honestly say i want a transplant and expect it would take away my hair issues so i can get on with a normal life

im taking the propecia course now and by the time i finish it i will be 20, by then or before i want my transplant as iv got very little hope from the results iv seen so far from this course of treatment.

i may admit everyone will see hairloss in different ways, some people may not even need it and will want it and some such as myself may think it is the only way to turn things around and bring themself back to being in a comfort zone
