Recovery and Healing After surgery.

After surgery you will be given pain medication and antibiotics, some ay be given anti swelling medication. These will need to be taken as advised by your doctor.

Slight bleeding or oozing may occur from the donor area where the sutures are placed and sometimes from FUE extraction sites. Place a towel on your pillow while sleeping for the first several nights in case of oozing so that your pillow case will not be stained. If bleeding occurs, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth or gauze to the area for 10 -15 minutes. If bleeding persists after 15 minutes of pressure, contact your clinic for further advice.

Swelling does occur. It is part of the healing process. The degree of swelling varies with each patient from mild to pronounced. To minimize the swelling you should sleep with your head elevated at a 45 degree angle for 3 nights, ice packs can be used also.

For ten days after your procedure, refrain from any strenuous activities that would increase your blood pressure, e.g. jogging, weightlifting. When picking up items from the floor, bend at the knees while keeping your back straight to avoid your head going below the level of your heart.

Take care when washing your hair, for the first few days use a mild shampoo, pour Luke warm water over your head and gently pat the shampoo on, rinse off using the jug. After 4/5 days the grafts are secure, you can then start to gently massage the shampoo into your scalp and wash normally in the shower, some clinics vary with the time frames so follow their post op instructions. Keep your hair and scalp clean.

If you had a strip procedure it's usually around the ten day mark you will have the sutures or staples removed.

This is just a short guide on what to expect after surgery, your clinic will give you full post op instructions after surgery.
