Ok ..........now every few years I go through massive sheds that last about 5-7 months then regrews but never to as thick as before...

Ive also noticed that when i go through it my hair caliber turns from thick and healthy to fine , soft and baby-ish .......its almost like a hormone thing.........

One think i must add is over the past 2 years i switched my meds from .50 of a Proscar 5 mg tab daily to several local pharmacy generic brands.....

It was about this time (after switching for 6 months) that i noticed the last thinning to begin...my next script will be back from generic to proscar

The following is a review of several Top Doc graft number quotes

My main concern was/is mainly to fill in my hairline and slight thinning through out the front 5 cm.....

Several Top Doc in person breakdown for graft numbers are:

Dr Feller ......1000- in front 2-3 cm and maybe an additional 500 for the 3-5th cm but not all at once ....he feels going to far into existing hairs will cause more harm then good

Dr Cole...feels exactly the same way....1000-1500 in 2 smaller sessions....I never brought up Feller's views to him

Dr Bernstein feels 800-1200...

Dr Cooley before the Acell test quoted 1200-1500 and maybe 1800 in time but not all at once.....

Dr Hasson feels 3000 all at once...........weighing more on the conservative side I feel based upon past Top Doc opinions 1200-1500 is a good starting number in Hasson's hands

I was also contemplating maybe even doing another FUE session to perfect and refine the hairline then fill in behind it with a strip of say 1000 .........once the hairline is set to our/my liking the rest can be done with a scar revision with tri-closure..........to hopefully shrink the scar without extending it.....

Another reason for this idea is due to the fact I really don't want to shave the area and go almost 5 months hiding under a hat until it grows back .....I work a full time job and do a lot of outside activities .....

Dr Cole is one of the few Top Doc's that does FUE without shaving the area both front and back........

Though im not crazy about the White dots....he however feels with PRP and Acell it should/may diminished this issue this time around

In my Opinion.....My case is more smoke and mirrors then mega large sets of sessions......... luckily 2000-3000 may be all I would ever need......i'm 43 and still have a full crown and mid scalp.....but due to past shit work the front 5 cm need to be refined and filled in with caution and an artistic hand......


Im still on the fence with the whole thing as past mistakes is making it extremely hard to pull the trigger again

Ether way i will make my final decision hopefully before Feb next year.....I have several weeks of vacation in May 2012....

any advice is welcome

The smaller sessions is for 4 reasons .....


1st ...its a money/funds issue...


2nd...I may be happy with 1500 at least to start if done by a leading Dr...


3rd ...It will cause less of shock loss to my existing hairs....


and 4th i can reduce the chance of my top scar stretching or having to go too far into my sides past the old scars ending points.....


Also I'm not looking for an extremely extra full density but more of a natural looking hairline and front 1/3 for a mid 40 year old salt and pepper guy....I also don't mind a slight recession ..........


I do feel my side recession needs to be slightly worked on though

Thanks for sharing your story on here.

I would go with the 1500 estimate, see what its like in 15 months time and then decide if you need more work after that.

Who did your origanal HT as you were left with a pretty wide scar.

Hmmm, I didn €™t think the scar looked too bad and the front looks fine, very natural looking. But I can understand that you want more density, maybe it would be easier to style. I €™m not sure how many grafts you need total but I would go with FUE and make sure the punches are small .7-.8 you will be less likely to have any scarring at least that has been my experience. Your donor seems to be very good, maybe fue into the scar if it €™s a big deal for you. Anyway good luck.

The top scar location (the one in the photo) was done by Long Island Med in 96 (HITZIGS old SHITHOLE) ....... made By twin blades they were using at the time.....It was in the opinion of many way to high.............Dr Hasson feels its ok to go into it again but would need to extend it into my sides in order to get the needed grafts.........

I also had it revised in 1998 by Dr Loria in Eastwood med in Long island NY

it however restretched to its present condition .........(viewed in the picture) ..Dr Cole in 2005 placed about 50 FUE's into it but i need about 200 more ....That's why i was thinking of a Tri-closure revision this time with internal sutures and outside staples but with a much smaller session .....say 1000 rather then 2000 or more....... along with FUE...........

my donor is great but need i need to be very careful with FUE as it will eventually thin the area uncovering the scars..........the lower one is not seen in the photo at all.....Dr Hasson feels The lower scar is in a slightly too low position and may stretch due to its location...... on the hump....

Has anyone had a hair growth reversal after switching from Proacar to the generic brands?

I buy mine from a local pharmacy..........

looking back over the past 2 years it seems after 6 months of switching from name brand to generic my hair regrowth started loosing ground....

Could the ingredients in Proscar be different then what's in generic finesterid ?

I have 1 week left on my script after next week im going back on Proscar to see if it helps......
