Shock loss??

I’ve heard shock loss can occur in the donor area. How long does this normally take to recover if it happens I think I might a few little patches??

It can take up to 6 months in extreme cases to fully grow back. Usually, one or two months before it returns to normal.

Thanks Bigmac. Just had my son take some photos and all actually looks good. Had another hair cut on Friday just back and sides and my barber said you cant even notice that I’ve had a HT from my donor area. Think my wife was just winding me up when she said she could see where they had taken my hair from

Yeah had it in the donor area for about 3 months

My partner has a sick sense of humour like that dude....she knows how paranoid I've been in the past over my hairloss and she has this nasty habit of talking to me whilst looking at my hair....drives me nuts and then she pisses herself laughing because she knows shes done it on purpose to wind me up.....cruel I know but its all done in jest so it's all good.

@Baldingman23, in my experience, shock loss in the donor area doesn’t typically occur until approximately 6 to 8 weeks out from the procedure. Now, everybody is different so it could occur sooner or later. That said, any shocked hair in the donor or recipient area could take up to six months or even a year to grow completely back. Obviously, those are extreme cases and shocked hair can grow back sooner. Believe me, I know how worrisome it can be to experience shock loss and wonder when those hairs will grow back. But as long as you selected a qualified surgeon, under normal circumstances, the shocked donor hair should grow back.

My donor area is looking really good now, infact it looks untouched. I think it was just early days of the donor area healing

@bullitnut, at this stage of my life since I’ve had a pretty full looking head of hair for many years now, I don’t think I’d be all that upset if my fiancé did that to me. But I know I would’ve been pretty upset about it early on. How do you feel when she does that today? I know she’s joking around, but sometimes jokes can still bother us. I was very sensitive about my hair for a long time and really didn’t like jokes about it. So I was just wondering how you really felt about her doing that at this stage?

I don’t mean to take the thread off topic or anything but emotional issues and hair loss is a very important subject. Because frankly, if we weren’t concerned or upset in someway about our hair loss, we wouldn’t be here and we wouldn’t be seeking ways to restore our hair.

What causes permanent shock loss?

Permanent shock loss can occur for two reasons. First, if any of the existing natural or transplanted hair is transected during surgery, those hairs are unlikely to grow back. Secondly, any natural hair that is miniaturizing and on its way out anyway due to male pattern hair loss may not grow back after surgery depending on how far gone the hair is. Transecting existing hair however, is practically nonexistent in the hands of an outstanding hair transplant surgeon.
