Should I wait?

I am 47 and had a transplant 2.5 years ago to correct a receding hairline. Since then I have had quite a bit of hair loss around the crown. I am scheduled for another transplant shortly but am having second thoughts. It seems to me I should be starting medication at the same time, or I could easily end up with a bald ring around the transplanted hair. The thing is I don't want finasteride because of the sexual sides, and I have a skin condition which is likely to be triggered by minoxidil. I know that Breezula is in the pipeline and that it works in a similar way to finasteride but is not expected to have the same sides. That sounds like a good option but it isn't going to be available for at least a couple of years, and I don't know how affordable it's going to be.

Should I just go ahead with the transplant, or would it be better wait for Breezula? Alternatively, should I put it off long enough to try one of the existing meds and see if I get the sides I'm worried about?

Having a hair transplant without any preventative measures in place is a risk.
If you have pictures of your current crown loss that you can share, it would help.
