Stiches vs Staples

I thought I would ressurect this debate as I am going to have a tweak next year on the temples even though I don't need it, hair greed has taken hold!

Anyway I was wondering what your thoughts are on donor closure? Last time I had staples and they were a pain to sleep with and painful during removal. For the 2nd OP, I have the option of either stiches or staples and was wondering if I should opt for the sutures?

1. What is the rationale behing using staples?

2. Do staples result in a neater/thinner scar?

I`ve only had staples in a non HT scar, they were very uncomfortable and i personally would not want them again.

I had sutures with my HT and found them much better, was able to sleep well with no problems whatsoever.

I've had sutures twice with SMG both with Dr Ron and Dr Paul and the donor scars turned out great, this last session i had staples.
The staples were totally painless for me personally up until around day eight post op when they became just a little uncomfortable to sleep on, had them out today though at the local NHS drop in and it was fine for me....they used the staple remover provided in my post op kit and seemed very interested and impressed by the idea of HT'S.

I know this is an old topic but I was curious beardy did you have staples or sutures and does anyone else have any thoughts on either method of closure.

Me too, what do you think would be the overall percentage of closures with sutures versus staples? in a good clinic

Are your sutures the dissolvable type or do they have to physically remove them?

Dr Hasson and Dr Wong both use staples as they feel that they provide the best closure and scar line, admittedly they are more uncomfortable. Staples can be removed quite easily by a relative.

Most doctors who use sutures use ones that need removing.
