Just read a really worrying article that stated there has been a rise in hairtransplant amongst the teenage generation to fit in with their friends and so they can take good selfies for the likes of facebook.

Apparently this came from the New York Post, it is troubling me to be honest..... surely their can't be much of an idea of how things are going to progress at such an early age as 15.

Article

Young men still in their mid-teens are battling male pattern baldness by flocking to cosmetic doctors for hair transplants. Despite the very expensive cost, which could reach $17,000, teens with means are willing to spend to spare from being the butt of jokes for the vanishing hair or receding hairlines at age 15 or 16.

There was a spike in hair transplant procedures in the past 12 months, said Dr xxxxxx, a surgeon based in Islip, reports the New York Post. Dr xxxxxxx gets hairs one by one from the patient €™s back of the neck and transplants it to the top of the head. The procedure takes up to six hours.

He estimates that the number of his patients, who are getting younger, has increased by about 50 percent in the past 12 months. The patients could just have slight hair recession or be totally bald. The cost of the procedure is often shouldered by the patient €™s parents, Dr xxxxx said.

The hair transplant surgeon explains the growing popularity of the procedure to the selfie culture as many youth join the trend of taking photos of themselves using their mobile phones from big moments in their lives such as school achievements to minor ones such as just chilling, and posting these images on social media sites. However, young men with less hair are often hesitant to post their selfies on Facebook because of the jokes or negative comments they get about their hair deficiency.

One of Dr xxxxx patients from Manhattan, whom the New York Post describes as follicularly deficient, said, €œI don €™t just put pictures on Facebook anymore €“ there were jokes about the way my head looks. € The youth adds, €œI just want to look hot. €

In some instances, some of these teen males didn €™t know they were losing hair until their social media friends comment on their vanishing crown of glory or they realise hair deficiency from the photos posted. Dr xxxx discloses that a lot of these young men lose their self-esteem upon finding out that they have hair problems. €œThey €™re not comfortable in their own skin, € the surgeon observes.

Some don on head covers such as hats or scarves to hide their hair woes. However, for those who could afford the procedure and have undergone it, they had become hat-free and gained more confidence.

Any Dr that performs an HT on a 15 year old needs to be put in jail.

Unless caused by cancer, burns etc this is so unethical.

Yes of course I 100% agree with that but I assumed we were talking about standard early mpb.

This is probably normal in some respect. What I have found to be true and this doesn €™t just apply to ht but it does seem to be very common, doing business by concealing essential information. Very few clinics/doctors will just lay all the cards out on the table and say this is what it is as too many simply would not be able to sell what they are offering.

For me personally I think there are disadvantages with some techniques/offerings when it comes to hair loss most especially when one is looking at the long term. Too many examples to list but for instance extracting a graft using a larger punch and then going on to dissect that graft into small ones as needed. That simply doesn €™t make sense to me as I am more apt to believe smaller wounds heal better than having fewer wounds that are much larger. But of course you will always have those that will try to convince others that even larger wounds are better €¦ €¦ €¦..sorry but I would have to disagree. I guess that is why I am such a staunch proponent of fue with a variety of small punches but as long as it is all discussed that is what €˜s most important.

Sometimes it just comes down to the person themselves. Honesty in general can probably be measured on a sliding scale with not many nowadays moving in the right direction. I have found the past €¦ €¦ €¦..looking at one €™s actions in the past is a very good indicator. What were they willing to do or not do €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦.not easy but essential when researching this industry. How did people get their start and what were they willing to do, this tells you something about them as a person.

I think these young boys more than likely did not have all the information nor did their parents and they are going to have a very hard time down the line as most simply will not be able to cope. Are they being sacrificed for greed of money €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦probably. Take away lesson for others is to have information that might be concealed before considering a procedure and try to learn something about those working in the industry as a people. If you watch someone long enough it becomes easier to make an assessment but of course those they might feel a hint of desperation tend to remove time from the equation...........best not to do this............just observe before making a decision.

On a positive note I have also found that people that are less than honest carry that over to their personal life and it usually doesn't end well. Divorce, disease, etc........much better to develop habits that would be considered good. Imagine how a doctor that would operate on a 15 year conducts the rest of his life...............this is what I mean.

What I truly do not understand about what this doctor is doing is that he doesn €™t seem to feel a sense of shame. I can €™t imagine doing this and then to speak so freely about it. I mean to actually speak to a reporter and tell the world. That is the part I don €™t quite get €¦ €¦..it really is hard to understand.

How does one not feel shame in causing potential long term harm to another? Whether they are the one €™s actually causing it or others that are simply just supporting it?

The point made that this doctor does not appear to feel any shame in what he is doing is an important point to consider. If he does not feel shame are there others that share this same belief in what they are doing €¦ €¦ €¦..very possible.

A point that should be considered that is even more important here is your perception after reading the article. Do you find that you are okay with what you are reading or do you find it somewhat disturbing? If you were to poll a few 15 year olds my guess is that for some it all might sound very appealing and not disturbing at all. The difference in interpretations comes down to age and the amount of information one has, so this article could also be perceived as simply media manipulation which happens all the time depending on who is reading ti. Much of what one reads is not news and information but simply marketing disguised as news and information.

Understand the source of your information. If the source is corrupted then one should assume the information is corrupted. Corruption is easy to pick up on when one watching long enough.................similar to politicians............often times it's hard to keep the story straight and the plot changes as needed.

Conducting a hair transplant procedure during teenage years may reduce the number of valuable hair grafts available for future transplant procedures.
