The difference between 3rd & 4th month

Those of you who have been following my progression since my surgery on 20th/21st November last year on a topic titled "My Update - 5 weeks post surgery and my hair is shedding," - I thought I would start a new topic and just wanted to share with you how much difference there has been since the 8th week (2 months), 12th Week (3 months) and the 16th week (4 months).

It's the 3rd month when the growth begins and it's the most exciting part! - every week people are saying my hair looks thicker. Of course I don't notice it until I compare the photos. - I see my face every day when washing and shaving etc. - You can see for yourself here below:

This is directly after the surgery:

- I have not posted a pic between 1-2 months because my hair was shedding and there was no growth- it's a shedding period anyway.

2 months: - (8 weeks).

3 months: Week 12

4 months: - Week 16

See the difference between the 3rd and 4th Month?:::C

It's exciting but nerve wracking because you don't know how it will turn out - also when does most of the growth of new hair occur? 3rd 4th or 5th month?

I am impressed with the frontal side zones but just hope the hair will grow in the centre and crown, in due course.:::C

Everyone is different in terms of growth but in my experience patients see the biggest changes from months 4-8. You have some good improvement from months 3-4. As the highest density was placed into your hairline this is where you have seen the biggest improvement so far. It is great to see hair growing where there was none before isn't it.

Yes it's so fascinating to see how the human body reacts to such surgical changes - especially your own and soon I will feel younger for sure.

It really does bring a tear to my eye - it's so over whelming, although I know this is not the final result, the best has yet to come. Also I may lose more hair. However, it's so nice to note that the frontal sides are virtually covered up now (both left and right). Also

I have the tendency to look in the mirror too much even when I am walking passed shop windows for instance I find myself peering in at my hairline! Hope I don't become too vain!

I have a question? It's regarding the newly implanted hair that's now growing - I notice when I comb it down/flat it does appear very wiry, ridged and stiff....(*almost like pubs/facial hair) if you excuse this phrase! - Is this because it's from a transplanted follicle/root? - As in it grows up spikey like a stalagmites. Is this how it should be? -Will the newly growing hair mature in due course?

Its really taking shape now 4 months in and its just going to get better and better am really wrapped for you as you were worried a bit a month or so back, dont worry so much about that wirey or frizz look it gets better trust me what i used to do was use a bit of conditioner on my hair when it was dry then wash and it helped but it will get better as time goes on

It is nice to see someone that is happy to show their own face tbh good for you. The hair that is coming through now is not properly developed and will come through wirey/spikey and harder to style it needs further growth for it to fully develop which is why some people refer to it as like baby hair.

It will soften and fully mature over time which adds to the overall effect it really is a very slow process and this maturing of the hair shaft can take 18 months to happen. New hairs in the main have popped through the scalp at 8-9 months.

Yes the crown and main middle part is still thin and I hope more growth will occur there, despite less implanted hairs but I am delighted with the frontal zone/new hairline - Really thickening up now! - I will attach some photos later.:::C

I can now comb my hair in the front - but the newer hair growth is still difficult to comb. How often do you recommend washing your hair and will combing your hair on the implanted zones make the growth less effective or damage the follicles?

I have another question to ask - I notice I still have some small hairs shedding - I think they are implanted but stalled hairs but don't know, they seem like spiky hairs that are 5mm's or 0.5cm in length and they are shedding from the implanted zones? - Please reassure me that they are the implanted hairs that are due to shed or should have shed and not the new growth which has/is already shedding!?

You can tell they are stalled hairs if you take a tweezer to the hair and they pull out without any resistance. Leave the hairs alone if resistance is there, otherwise lift the hairs out. It means you could massage your hair a bit more aggressively when shampooing.

Thank you! I actually did that last night - at least several hairs around the implanted zone - they were only like 3-5mm about the surface of scalp and they virtually slide out with tweezers and they looked the same size (5mm) as the implanted hair that shed around the 1st and 2nd month.

They felt sharp and spikey, like the implanted hairs were! I just had to make sure that I was pulling out the stalled hairs and wasn't pulling out any new growth of hair lol. Also these stalled hairs were where my scalp was itchy the most.

Most of the new hair looked finer at first and then thickened up and grew but these stalled hairs (even 5 months post op). were not growing at all and we just stuck there but I just had to make sure that they are stalled ones now new ones growing if you're with me.

With regards to the stalled hairs - why are they taking longer to shed and why are they not growing? Did they not take root? If I pull some obvious stalled hairs out will this damage the follicle or will it make room for new growth? I am curious?

The new hairs will grow in place of the stalled hairs. No need to worry, you didn't damage the follicles by sliding out the stalled hairs.

Thanks for reassurance - these are the stalled hairs that slide out with tweezers! - They look similar to the implanted grafted hair that shed few months ago!

Just had to make sure that I was not pulling out new hair and of course there is new hair growth around the stalled hairs LOL.

Hi Supersmooth, pics look great. I also had my procedure on 21st November and I'm now seeing some real growth. I'm feeling quite confident that the next few months should see further growth. I have not posted pics yet, as I intend to post my post op pics through to 6-7 months in one go (it used to drive me mad when people only post a couple of incomplete pics)I have to admit my experience with HT's has been a little......inconsistent, but hopefully will all's well that ends well.
