The Pantone Chart

I wanted to share something from my own life experience and hopefully this will help those considering a hair transplant. It is intended for the prospective patient and if it is helpful great.

When I was around 15 I worked repairing and setting up heavy manufacturing equipment after school. Part of the work required mixing ink. The hardest inks to mix were the very light inks. Even a small amount of old ink in a hose could throw the whole color off. What I learned after throwing dozens of batches away was that when a mixture required 99 parts white and maybe only one part red that you are infinitely better off adding only ¼ of one part red and see how it looks. You can always add more but once you add too much it becomes a huge undertaking as everything needs to be pulled apart including hoses, pans, and pumps. This is why you often see some of the better doctors preferring to do less. Because doing more later is always easier than having to reverse the process.

BTW kudos to repair doctors. I would always mutter under my breath if I followed someone €™s work that was half assed. It became a huge chore for me to not only have to start from scratch but to reverse all the work that simply didn €™t make sense.

Hair transplantation kind of works the same way it €™s also why those with minimal hair loss fue can be the better choice as the doctor can cherry pick hairs that are thinner in caliber and lighter in color to achieve a hairline that looks natural as opposed to dark thick hairs coming from the occipital zone which often catches the eye of an observer as being off. Even with extensive hair loss sometimes using hairs from the occipital zone only does not look right €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦it always looks a little off in some individuals.

Additionally if the wrong hairs are used on one €™s first procedure even though it becomes a much bigger undertaking it is sometimes better to remove much of it and start from scratch just like that example with the ink €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦.otherwise you are just spinning your wheels and end up in the same place.

Below is an example of a Pantone chart. The hair on one €™s head is much like a unique finger print. The hairs for the hairline should be those that are taken from the upper left hand corner of the chart and gradually move towards the bottom right hand corner of the chart. It has to have a natural flow where the gradient goes from lighter and thinner to darker and thicker. Unfortunately we often see examples out there where doctors don €™t seem to understand this most basic concept.

It €™s also another reason why hair dot tattooing often looks bizarre. It €™s all the same color hence comments from the general public such as €œshoe polish €

Keep in mind I had access to almost unlimited amounts of ink so I could make the mistakes and all it became was extra work.
With hair it's like you have a couple of 5 gallons pails of ink...........if you waste that first pail you might get the second batch right...........but chances are you will not have enough ink to finish the job.
This is what guys that don't think it matters where they go fail to realize...........once the hair is gone it's gone..........

This thread was started by me for a reason. It €™s to help explain my own view on hairlines in a way that might help a young guy better understand the importance of getting it right. The person that I posted this for that has a hairline that doesn €™t look quite right €¦ €¦ €¦chances are it can be fixed. But also understand that you need to get it right moving forward because the reality is you DO NOT have room for any mistakes. What I have written here covers only one aspect of hairlines and is hardly everything one needs to know.

It €™s easy to get caught up in the forum banter and the praise posters consistently give to results. Maybe some of that is sincere, maybe some of that is so the patient can feel good about themselves or maybe some of that constant praise over and over again is to help create an atmosphere where you to dive in too. You need to understand the difference and learn to trust your own judgment.

The shoe polish comment I made about tattooing was never made by anyone on a forum. It was actually a comment made to a major UK newspaper in response to a showcase hair dot procedure that was highlighted and made by the general public. Those are the comments that matter €¦ €¦ €¦.the general public. What should matter to you is what your friends, family and maybe wife/girlfriend think about your results and not something posted to a hair loss forum. Much of what those people think about your result will go unspoken...............when you are within close personal distance where do their eyes go...............that speaks volumes of truth and what you really need to know.

With that being stated I advise you to go very slow moving forward and only do the extraction portion of what needs to be done and then assess it. You have to go slow in my opinion. Do not trust anyone and only what you see in the mirror.

Also understand that if you start obsessing about your situation and I €™m assuming you are not married and might have a girlfriend, she will easily pick up on it. It €™s not good for you to do that nor is it good for your relationship. Put yourself in a position where you change your hairstyle in a way where it now becomes no big deal for you in your own mind and then slowly work towards your plan of repairing it. You are also infinitely better off looking to the forums and other patients for moral support as opposed to your partner in my opinion. It will make getting through it much easier and put less strain on any personal relationship you might have.

As I have furthered my research into areas such as cognitive therapy for some of my writing I realized many of the coping mechanisms that are recommended were strategies I used. They simply came naturally to me when I too became a repair patient 30 years ago. My own life was very normal and in fact on a social level much better than the average person, I suppose working in the night club business played a big part €¦ €¦ €¦..most repair patients simply do not have this same experience. It €™s an important point. Give your situation less importance in your own mind for now and stay busy with other activities €¦ €¦ €¦.then just work your plan slowly moving forward. Good luck to you and sharing this with others is important for me. Maybe only one person will see it and make a different choice and give this whole process more thought.

Also understand your situation is not unique and it happens more often than most realize but patients go into a self preservation mode so they remain silent............it's normal and can be expected and much of the industry performing less than natural work relies on it and that is why it's important for me to speak for those that simply can't......it helps others.

Sorry guys but the doctors on these list are not all equal and if you believe that I suggest staying away from this procedure. There are probably 10 or less in the world that have what it takes and can offer all that is required to make your experience positive and last for the long term. Figure it out by spending the time which can be very long and make your own list.

Below is a very good video by Dr. Hare most should watch it.

I think even the ht industry will admit there are those that are less than honest in the business and they give the rest a bad name. Many are in fact psychopaths or have some of the traits. It is not a derogatory term as most get the definition mixed up with other terms so it should not viewed as being offensive. It simply means a person that has less sensitivity toward feeling guilt or remorse.

If you are now a repair patient this is a must view because any desperation you might feel will work against you. One of the most important videos out there in my opinion.
Here is the link.

Only one other video that might be better and I have it listed below. It highlights some different authors and having read a couple dozen books in this area alone I can tell you if you are a prospective patient this is very valuable information in researching as it does apply to the ht industry. Pay particular attention to Zimbardo's comments as it is easy to follow along without even realizing what is happening...........and then it becomes too late.
This does not cover everything you need to know but if you are not a reader take the the time to view the 2 videos listed. It can help save you from making a bad decision. There is some good in the industry you just know what to look for in people.
I was actually kind of excited to even find them as I was searching for something else. Hope this helps someone.
