In my opinion and from my own experiences the use of nape hair could be very well be ill advised. What happens as you thin that area out from harvesting grafts is that the hair above it no longer has anything below it to layer itself upon. If you view the picture of the back of my head you will see the nape area has been stretched out and thinned from various ill advised procedures. But they left that part out how convenient.
If you think you will be able to grow you hair long to cover this area you will be sadly mistaken. As the hair reaches the length of where the nape hair should be it will stick out a noticeable distance from the scalp almost as if you were wearing a wig.
If you think that you will not care later in life my guess is that you would be wrong.
