Have you noticed any noticeable difference among your patients who use generic finasteride as opposed to the Merck brand, and which version do you prescribe to your patients?

Hi FutureFue

Most of our patients will get the medication themselves in their respective countries as such and we don't therefore have a lot of feedback.

I have spoken to some who had side effect issues on generic tablets and I myself had issues on a generic many years ago that I never had on non generic.

Seeing your own GP is wise and also some pharmacy outlets have teams to give advise on Propecia also but I do know patients and patient reps who have faired better on non generic but it may be in the minority.

Hi futurefue,

Not sure if you are the same guy who asked me this question on another forum?

But I will repeat the answer here.

We only prescribe and recommend branded Propecia 1mg or Proscar 5mg to cut. A number of patients who were on generic and switched to brand name have reported improvements in their hair. I have also had patients that have reported sides on a generic and been ok on the name brand. This has been enough for us to not recommend generics.

Hi Garageland,

Yeah busted!

I was just covering my bases so thought I would ask here too.

I have noticed a drop in the effectiveness of generic proscar and thought it was my imagination.

Thanks for clarifying.

It makes sense to get opinions from everywhere, I have just been on the generic proscar and haven't noticed any native hairloss since being on it (a long time) and I only take a 5th of a tab twice a week.
