What would be an adequate amount to give good coverage and density for someone with fine hair?

Would 35 cm/2 be enough? Or would it be very see through? Or would putting double and triple hair grafts make it look dense enough?

I am a norwood 3 or 3A if this helps. I need my whole frontal area covered.

I know people on here are honest and a good few have had procedures so I'd appreciate your views.

Hi Jessop,

There are many considerations to take into account, fine hair, natural average hair groupings, hair to skin colour variant, curl of your hair for example.

If with 35 density you are talking about an average density over the area, possibly, your hair line would certainly need a higher density as it needs to be made of single hair units, behind then it could decrease slightly as multiple hair units would be used, but again it is important it blends with your surrounding native hair.

You are probably looking at around 2500-3000 grafts dependent on your hair line design if you need to cover the frontal third.

Obviously the donor is a finite resource so they has to be some poet license when creating the look of density, the angle of placement, slit making, curvature of the hair are all "tricks" to get the best coverage and natural looking density from your natural hair characteristics.

I've been told by various clinics I'd need 2200 to 4000 grafts.

I was told hairline would be between 50-60cm/2. Does that sound about right?

Hi Jessop,

Obviously it ´s hard to be precise as we have not consulted you, but there is a large variant in the numbers you have been given.

Hair line design can play a large part, even a cm or so difference in the design can change the numbers; with the single hairs in the hair line needed, maybe 500-600 or so in a small area, especially with fine hair this will change the numbers.

If you have not, maybe try to get a personal cons with a few clinics, measure your hair to graft count and your characteristics against the area needing to be treated. The initial inconvenience will pay dividends in the future.

Fine hair, especially straight fine hair and high variant in skin/hair contrast if the case will need on the higher side of the numbers you have said.

I agree the numbers are vastly different. One clinic said 2200 would achieve a good result. Another said it would take about 4000. Most said about 3000.

Jessop,

I've found that majority of patients with fine hairs tend to have good hair to graft ratio. Hopefully, this will be the case for you so that you'll have above average number of 3 and 4 hair grafts to help with density. I've seen many results that had approx 35 grafts per cm2 look very good. We know that they had very good yield.

When you say whole frontal area, are you referring to frontal half?

Jessop, this is a guide obviously but when clinics talk about the frontal third and mid section it can make quite a difference to the graft numbers.

The picture below is just a guide, frontal sections and mid section, the difference in numbers could be close on 1000 grafts.

In addition please give as much additional information as possible (race, hairline design you wish to go for etc ). These things make a lot of difference in the final planning and graft estimates.

It's going ok, Bigmac. Thanks for asking. I've been emailing patients of a Dr I'm thinking of going to. He hasn't got lots of results online but the ones he does are good and the patient I have been in contact with has good results at 6 months IMO.
