Americans Elinor Ostrom and Oliver E. Williamson won the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences for their analysis of economic governance.
"The research of Elinor Ostrom and Oliver Williamson demonstrates that economic analysis can shed light on most forms of social organization," the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said.
Ms. Ostrom is the first woman to win the economics prize since it began in 1968.
