Week 6 after hair transplant - Hair Neva

On February 14, I had a hair transplant procedure in Hair Neva clinic in Istanbul. My procedure was 4.000 grafts on FUE Technique.
I'm now on week 6 after the transplant, already passed the phase of the shredding (most of it) and now I think I'm on the phase of the new hair growing. I'm posting some before and after pictures so you can see how it's going. The pictures are before (first two pictures), one week after (pictures 3 - 6) and now 6th week pictures 7-10).

Everything looks normal except your donor area which looks like they took everything you had at the back.

Its difficult to tell at this time if its alot of temporary shock loss or if you have been overharvested, you can tell after 6 months how the donor area is recovering.

Your punching seems rather close to eachother up top, do you have any photos on the donor area directly after the procedure was finished?

Thanks digi23 for your feedback. I can feel some new hair growing in the donor area. Actually, that photo was taken few days after the procedure (may be 4 days later). The clinic told me that only after 3 months I will be able to notice a real improvement, both in the donor and recipient area. Thanks!

Hi Carlos.
Welcome to the forum.
It looks as though you have more density placed at the front with it thinning out the further back it goes. It is a large area covered.
As Digi points out, they may have used up most, if not all of your scalp donor. I can’t be sure if the extractions Digi marked out are too close together because of the blood but I do see some on the sides that are next to each other. Any extractions that are next to each other have a greater possibility to leave the donor looking patchy. At 6 weeks post-op your donor has not recovered yet. Hopefully, it is temporary shock loss. If so, the native hair should return but it can take 6-7 months in cases likes yours.
I did notice your hair looks to be thinning from the neck up which could indicate retrograde alopecia. Are you on any hair loss prevention meds?
If you can feel new hairs punching through, you could be an early grower.
I hope you keep updating so we can see how the donor recovers and what your growth will be.

Before the procedure I was myself concerned about the donor area. However I was told it wouldn't have any problem. When my hair loss shock started, most of the hair in the donor area just fall down. Now I do feel new hair punching. I haven't use any medication to prevent or stimulate hair growing (ah! except for a biotin supplement). Despite I bought Minoxidil 10% on spray, I have never used, as I have no clear indications on how and when to start use it.
I hope my hair in the donor area recovers. I'll keep updated this thread. Thanks!

How did the donor look after 2 weeks? Do you have more photos of say every week after?

Hello Carlos,
looks like they have taken some hair from outside your safety zone on your doner area, How long did they operate on you for. I also had a hair transplant recently in Istanbul, this was my second procedure 2 years after my first with the same clinic. Dr Ali Karanediz advised me to use minoxidil after the first 3 weeks to help provide nutrition to the scalp hairs and donor ones to help stimulate growth and prevent some hair loss, you need to rub it in your scalp gently all over. Also try MSM supplements these help with hair growth, most places sell them, you could also use Tgel shampoo. Hope this helps best wishes.

Alright, in my opinion it looks like too close punching up there, it dents in. It looks like deep wounds.

4000 grafts is quite alot of grafts in one sitting and if the person who do extraction is not extracting homogenously it can be a problem, but as I said in my first answer, it is hard to tell at this point if its just shock loss or overharvesting.

Just relax now and you can see in a couple of months how its going to look. Would be good if you update every month atleast how it is going.

Thanks Newcastleblogger for your advices. To my surprise the procedure lasted just 6.30 hours (I was told it could take up to 9-10). My relatives and work colleagues have told me that there are some improvements on my donor area. However, and following your advice, I'll start using Minoxidil, and will look for more info on tgel shampoo and MSM supplements.

May I know why you did a second procedure?

Thanks Digi23 for your supporting words. I'm nervous, but to be honest not really too much as I do notice some improvements, despite being slow. I'm also very impatient. Thanks a lot and I'll follow your advice: relax and patience are key factors on the recovery process.

This should provide a more precise opinion on your donor extractions and the placement of grafts.

Broad hairline, low density, more grafts than you needed. Harvest is way too high in the mid-occipital area. I suspect shock loss in the donor area. You needed 2500 grafts in an area where you probably got 1800 to 2000 grafts. I'd suspect the donor area will recover, but you will be thin where you are losing hair. This is a fairly poor quality procedure seen in some countries like Turkey. There are far better clinics in Turkey. Remember that all those grafts taken low in your donor area have fine hair and may fall out one day. The same can happen commonly in grafts taken too high. I don't see anything in this procedure that I like.

Thanks for your opinion John Cole. I was a little bit reluctant to post my current pictures instead of waiting until the third month was completed (it has been just month and a half). I'm optimistic, however, as I do notice some improvements. The numbness feeling, due to anesthesia, lasted for three weeks, mostly on the donor area that you see more affected. When the numbness feeling disappeared, new hair in that area started to grow from zero. Thanks for your opinion.

I was told by the Dr that it would be impossible for full coverage with a first hair transplant, the first one did provide some excellent results but I needed to go back for coverage of the lateral sides, middle and crown area, plus more density mid to front hair line. The first hair transplant the Dr removed between 10 to 15% of my donor hair preserving the rest, total combined grafts over two operations using micro fue around 5420. My second procedure lasted 7.5 hours two women working side by side,

It would be good to see them.
All you can do now is wait and see how this turns out. I have seen shock loss take 7 months to return to normal. The anaesthesia could be the cause of the excessive shock loss.
