What are the essential questions I should ask during consultations with HT Surgeons?

Hi Everyone

I have been looking into finding the right HT Clinic and surgeon for FUE surgery and have narrowed my search down to Dr.Bisanga at BHR and Dr.Feriduni.

I have requested an online consultation with both but would like to know what are the essential questions I need to ask in my consultations?

I am unable to travel to Belguim just for a consultaion alone so I will have to settle for online communication. Are there questions I should definately get answers to from the clinics before commiting to any procedure?

I have done some extensive research online and both Doctors have excellent reputations but there are so many advice pages out there regarding questions I should ask, including graph patterns, microsropes and questions about their team of staff. I really would really like to know the most important questions to ask that will assure me I am in good hands and help me make the right decision.

Any advice would be very much appreciated and gratetfully received

You chose two top notch clinics......
Their technical skills and contribution of their surgical team isn't in question because they both have proven track record and produce consistent work. It really comes down to individual doc's philosophy/design/artistry, and patient care preoperatively and post operatively. And, do their approach match with what you have in mind. I'd send pictures of your hair loss and ask for their opinion on how to best restore your hair. Once you go through the consultation process (emails, phone calls, etc.), you'll get a lot better feel for who you think is right for you. Good luck.

As janna said if you could send photos to us, my email is [email protected], clearly showing loss with no gels or concealer. Show front, back, sides and top and ensure they are recent and representative of your situation.

Goals, age, medication etc also please.

Some inquirers we email but the reply can sometimes go to the spam folder, so, if you have not heard from us then please check that as we usually reply to all inquiries the same day.

Post operative care and support is important, the forums are good for advice but reassurance from your doctor is always good.

your level of satisfaction will vary inversely to your expectations

the more you can quantify visually these expectations the better

find out the density they propose to implant and what that might look like on your head

that said, remember this is cosmetic surgery and there are no guarantees to outcomes, so post op care is essential

this is a two way street though
the blame game is not a recommended course to take if you are not satisfied

reason: a good clinic will provide support and remedy without resistance but an unqualified clinic won't be able to regardless of your demands

going into these types of elective surgeries with the knowledge that your clinic will perform to the best of their abilities what is outlined pre-op but that "things" happen which might need additional surgery at additional cost no matter how minor to get to the place you want

There are many good questions to ask but something at the top of the list should be where is your hairloss heading, how much donor do you have available and how do you propose to cover the recipient area as you see it in the future with a density and hairline that you would find pleasing also knowing you might have to leave the crown bald if necessary. Understand the basic math each number will differ depending on the available donor, the future hairloss pattern, the size of your head, the caliber of your hair, and the skin to hair contrast. I €™m sure I might have left something out here but know the numbers and always work it out on paper first.Like a carpenter measure twice cut once

You got guys out there using 50% of their donor for about 20% or less of their recipient area, how do they justify this math when in the end it will simply not add up.

As Topcat says, write down what you want to ask as you do forget, check them off one by one until you are happy.

Ask Ask Ask... And then go with your gut feeling. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Look for the doc that with give you the truth by saying, "No... we cannot do that..." An honest doc will establish boundaries to what he/she and their staff can accomplish.

Good idea is to also state you are going to start a blog with immediate before and after pictures and update every 3 months , i always think this acts almost as an insurance policy should things not work out as expected

Hair Transplant is an ART as much as a science. So try to meet patients who have same level of hairloss as yours. Look for those that have hair characteristics similar to yours (curl, diameter etc.).
If you can not meet real patients, clear videos is the next alternative.

I agree with Janna. In addition, you should provide information about your current hair loss (photos important!), the hair loss in your family, your age, what you wish as an outcome, and whether you're using products such as minoxidil and finasteride.

It's important that there is some scope for future hair loss as well. What if you lost more? Find out what they say.

I just saw how old this thread was! I figure OP is way past consulting! Still, some good advice here
