What is consider a natural hairline? Is it 5cm,6cm or 7cm?

Mines at 5cm but i would prefer 6cm.

Are you thinking about having a graft removal procedure to bring your hairline up to 6cm?

This is not a sensible question as people have different head shapes and sizes. If you took 100 people under 18 you would see a big variation in hairlines which translates into adulthood; with similar hairloss patterns.

With hairlines there is no one size fits all. Bone structure and degree of loss dictates what is wise and fitting to design.
Bone structure and loss can result in the recipient area being larger than the donor area and this being the case it is not wise to design a low flat hair line because it is important to restore a facial balance, not just from the front elevation but sides and top. By restoring a low frontal hairline you may create an unnatural facial proportion.
If the hair line does not match the bone structure in relation to the patterning of hair loss this can result in a front loaded design, many grafts being used to restore an area and the creation of an unnatural pattern of hair growth, high frontal density and a design not fitting the patterning of hair loss behind the frontal, compounded with a larger area to treat if and when the loss progresses.
Ethnic characteristics can also dictate changes in a natural hair line so must also be considered with design.
Above all it is important not to have a designer hairline but rather something that will suit your own personal features.
So, whether 5,6,7 cm hairlines are good is only a part of the overall picture after considering many factors.

Thanks for the information Stephenl. I also think it involves the age of the patient, how much hairloss he or she has, and the hair characteristics.

Great answer Stephen. Makes a lot of sense. I do believe however that with a HT it is always best to error on being higher vs. too low.

Let the patient choose first what he wants .Because they usually know what pleases them .
Then , come with your expert eye and regulations from the industry to advise him :
that's where I will place the criteria such as bone structure , hair loss extension ( better do a high hair line on class 7 but sometimes they want to just frame the face and cover the bald area at low density and it is ok to give them a lower hair line than what it's described in text book ), patient's hair style .
If you usually comb your hairs forward , high hair line may appear low because hairs behind will fall down on your face .If you comb your hairs back , you will reveal your face and it is very important to put the hair line at a low level if that's your goal.
